A Couple Of Questions....

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone......I have my surgery next Thursday and I thought of a couple of questions. I was told that usually after surgery and fo rthe first year or so the stomach holds about 6-8 ounces. Is this true? And also...I was also told that total calories after surgery for generally the first year also are around 600 - 800. True also? Any information will be appreciated. My head is spinning.....

are you not working with a nut?

they all vary in what they say. you start out being able to eat between 2 and 4 oz, then gradually most get up to 8 by year end. some more, some less. the highest weight loss period is the first six months when most are on lower calorie programs. my goal is around 600 but i vary between 400 and 750 depending on what i eat. my nut cares about Protein more than anything else. i don't count carbs at all. as you exercise more your needs will change but Protein will always be your first concern, not calories.

I have a nut but I am one of these people that like to hear it from more than one source. Especially from someone that has actually had the surgery and knows first hand. Your numbers are right what she told me. Mu nut also said that the Protein is the most important above everything else. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

My nutritionist says max is about 700 calories, but, get your 50-60 grams of Protein in. It depends on what I eat, I can eat anything, but flaky fish goes down the easiest, and I feel i can alot of it.

I had my first steak last night, order the 9 oz filet, ate about 4 oz of it, but my friend thinks i ate 6 oz of it.. dunno..lol, all i know it was yummy.

I thought a nut was required/included in every deal except for out of country sleevers. My bad! But I totally get where the op was coming from because I question and research my brain out as well :).

everyone is different. I can't tell you how many ounces my stomach can hold- it definitely fluctuates. I have been at 1200+ cals since 2 months out in an attempt to not tank my metabolism. My opinion is if you go to low the fist year your metabolism tanks, then when you do "splurge" eating a mere 1000 cals you gain. no thanks. This is advice from a personal trainer at lifetime fitness with a masters in nutrition as well. I made goal at 8.5 months out following his advice. I am currently maintaining my goal weight (167 pounds) at 2000 cals or so daily. So i feel like my metabolism is normal. I plan to continue speeding up my metabolism lifting weights and using the stairmaster. Hopefully I will drop ten more pounds in the next year.

My insurance doesn't cover the NUT after surgery. I chose to continue to use the one at my docs office but i pay $25 per visit. Worth it to me, helps keep me accountable.

I am glad I am paying the big bucks for premium insurance at work. Total out of pocket is 250 and the after care is amazing, especially the NUT. I have a 3 week, 3 month, 6 month, 9 month and 1 years follow up plus they have support groups 2x a month. I feel bad if your insurance does not have an after care, but do appreciate that VST is second to none and full of gracious, caring and knowledgable people ( well, except for 1 or 2 recently). We are here to help you.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
