So I had my surgery on 10/10 and was super nervous. The surgeon said everything went very well and he also repaired my hernia. I was in a lot of pain but the pain pump was a savior. I am a stomach sleeper and sleeping on my back in a hard hospital bed was THE WORST. I hate hospitals. You can never rest, always in and out and the lights are SO bright. Luckily the staff was great and that made it better. Had my leak test and no leak so started drinking Water. Water was giving me heartburn but Crystal Light actually helped me get it down a lot better. I had a few breaking points of crying, just being frustrated, hoping I made the right decision, being in pain, headache from sleeping on my back, but today, 4 days out I'm feeling much better. I'm getting in my fluids and most of my Protein, although that's been really hard. Finally able to sleep on my belly a little and have been to a couple of stores walking around. The diet is difficult but I know it's only temporary. So far, I'm going great and hope to continue on this path. This forum helped prepare me on what to expect and gave me a lot of perpectives. Just wanted to share my experience thus far.

You are doing great on this journey! CONGRATS! It will get easier each day. I know that for me in the hospital, I was totally utilizing my morphine pump. It helped me sleep on my back in a some what upright position. So glad that is over with. Now it's the journey in learning new eating habits and what works and doesn't work for us. I am 1 year out and loving my new body size and still learning how to eat and practicing my new eating habits on a daily basis. Love my sleeve! :)

Congrats! I love hearing stories of people a year or more out because it gives me so much hope and happiness. I can't lie, I already miss real food, but I just keep telling myself it's all worth it and less then two weeks I can incorporate some 'real' food!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
