The Calculus Of Cheating

Recommended Posts

I bought a 36 pack of string cheese and blew through it in less than a week. Which is why I usually don't buy cheese. Occasionally I give in, but I don't usually buy that much. It was on sale, and I can't resist a deal on something I want.

But, I started to actually think about how bad it really was and how guilty I should feel. So, I did the math:

6 pieces of string cheese per day for 6 days. They're 50 calories each. So that's 300 "extra" calories a day, or 1800 total "extra" calories. I say "extra" because they may not all count as extra calories, depending on the day, because I may have eaten the cheese instead of something else.

Before the surgery a cheat would've been 1800+ calories in a day. Now it's 1800 calories in a week. Big difference.

The lesson: keep everything in context, especially when you screw up. And don't go grocery shopping before dinner.

Oh I eat string cheese daily as it's an excellent source of Protein. I buy the "light" version. If you are following a low carb diet this make a great snack. 2 is usually my daily intake. The only downside is the sodium content which is higher in string cheese than the babybel cheese. Can you tell, I know my cheeses! LOL

Isn't light lower in fat, but as a trade off higher in carbs?

Usually that is true. But it can vary from food to food and from brand to brand. Usually low fat cheese is low in fat because its made with 2% milk. Fat free cheese is made from skim milk. Therefore it usually has less fat, less carbs and less calories. In the case of the skim (fat free) it also has less taste.

I ate many a meal that was way more than 1800 calories in my previous life. Easy to do at certain restaurants.

And now when I go to the grocery store, I stay on the perimeter. Produce, meats and dairy. Evil lives between the aisles.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
