I think they're most worried about digesting raw fruits and vegetables, especially things that are stringy or things that have seeds or skins.

I've had some raw fruits and vegetables in moderation: sliced apples, side salads, veggies on sandwiches, etc, and I'm less than three months out.

Just start off slow so you can learn what you can and can't tolerate, and don't eat too much in one sitting.

Good luck.

I am worried about the salads also. I haven;t even talked to my nut about it yet as I am not two weeks out yet. I really miss the salads and can;t wait until I can eat them again ( hope I can with no problems).

I was cleared for salad at four weeks post-op and promptly started eating them like crazy, and have done ever since. Love salad! You just have to chew well and eat slowly, and pick more tender lettuces rather than like arugula and similar. I ate a lot of mache lettuce, which dissolves super easy -- I just cut off the little stem-y root-y bits from it. YUM.

My nutritionist told me I could eat salads too but tender lettuce n spinach, she also told me I can have TV dinners like lean cusine smart ones just make sure you select some that are under 250 calorie but be sure to only get dinners with sum Protein meat n veggies and first eat your Protein before u eat your veggies. She also said I could eat the Greek frozen icecream yogurt. Im so happy because I was getting bored with my foods I am almost 8 Weeks out!

I eat salads no problem. I am 4.5 months out. Started eating salads at about 3 months. I do lettuce, cheese, cottage cheese, sometimes carrots/celery, and light dressing. Feel great - down 102 pounds. Everyone's tummy is a bit different. Follow your doctor's recommendations and don't rush anything. Take good care of yourself and treat your tummy with love! (smile)

I am six months out today... I've tried salad a few times... Either the baby greens or the romaine... And seems that every time it upsets my stomach... Tmi but when I poop after I eat lettuce... You know it!

But all other parts of a salad (cucumbers, Tomato, olives) are fine.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
