Heavyness In Chest? First Couple Of Weeks

Recommended Posts

Hey ya'll. It's been 8 weeks and 2 weeks since my surgery and I've forgotten how you "feel" the first few weeks, partially because I didn't feel normal last time, and partially cuz well I've forgotten what I've read since it's been so long.

So I know I have more bloating than usual because of multiple surgery's and complications. But I'm basically in week two again and I feel full up to my chest (if that makes sense). I'm having a really hard time getting in liquids and Protein and I need them both. I'm on full liquids now. Is this normal? Or for those with complications....is this normal for us? I'm wondering if the chest pain (which is not dangerous) is just pressure from my rib cage pain and swelling when they stuck the garden hose down there....that most can't comment on LOL thank god!

But how did you feel normal or complications a couple of weeks out?

I am thinking what your feeling is normal. I am 9 daddy's post op and feel the same way. I just wait a while an the pressure goes away. I get it really bad if I drink to fast. I also take a Prilosec every morning and that has helped.

I had that, but it was more about being sedentary than anything else. The heaviness was Fluid building up from not taking enough deep breaths. I took that doo-hicky home from the hospital and kept blowing throughout the day and it subsided.

I wonder how many daddys I'm out :P (auto correct sucks lol)

I have three of those dohickies....I'll give that a try slim. THanks! I did have significant lung damage so perhaps that's a major contributing factor. I can't be sedentary in my house (an old victorian with 30 stairs between each floor and huge distances between each room). But I haven't been using those things....I'll start next time I make it up the stairs LOL

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
