Thanks so much for responding. Yeah, we do share our surgery date, so I think that is a positive in our journey. I am truly excited about the surgery, I feel so different now that i lost some weight. I am so totally disappointed that I can't get all my Water in and am having a hard time with the Protein Drinks, too.

My energy level has been horrible, then I drank some green tea with stevia and wow, did that help! I realize now the tea has caffeine in it...oops! But hey I'm ok and had lots of energy, so I'm guessing it is really ok. Tonight I puréed some red Beans, and ate them and it has stayed down.....I'm fortunate as I know some people have trouble changing over to soft foods. I also ate an egg today, half in the morning and half at lunch. That stayed down, so tired of the sweetness of the Protein drinks.

Keep in touch with me and let's support one another! I appreciate you already!

I am so with you on the sweetness of the Protein drinks. Right now I'm able to get in 1/2 of and Ensure. It's not too sweet but has lots of protein. Luckily, I moved on to "soft" foods today and will be there for 4 weeks. I don't know how you can eat pureed food. Just the idea made me gag! I begged my nutritionist to please find a way past that, and she did. She called it "modified liquids" (cottage cheese, yogurt, mashed potatoes).

Yeah, lets keep in touch and keep up the support.

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the site here, still trying to figure out how everything works! Had my sleeve done on 11/19. Started my journey at 281 and am down to 249 as of today. So excited about life and finally shedding this weight that has plagued me for more than half of my life.

Surgery went very well, was in the hospital for two days following surgery. No nausea after the recovery room until today. Wiped me right out too. Put on a pair of dress pants (that fit and look nice!) for the first time since surgery and I guess they put too much pressure on my stomach because I started having a rapid heart beat and felt extremely ill with a lot of pain after drinking half of my Protein Shake. The pants didn't bother me before that. My stomach must still be swollen to some degree so lesson learned, do not wear anything that feels even the slightest bit snug around the waist yet!

Anyone else having trouble trying to get in their daily Protein amounts? I hit 67 grams yesterday and was able to tolerate 6 cups of Water throughout the day. Maybe my tummy is upset with me from all of that yesterday :/ Anyway, tomorrow is a new day. Back on the band wagon to get my Protein and liquids in. My post-op visit is next week, can hardly wait to start eating a larger variety of foods other than full liquids. I haven't been hungry since the surgery but food sure does smell good to me...guess that doesn't go away huh?

Nice to read everyones posts so far. Good luck to all of us and may each one of us reach our goal weight!!!!!

Hello I am begining to worry is everything ok. I am suppose to take 70 grams of Protein and now it is up to 90. I have been forcing myself to drink the fluids as I am scared to go back in the hospital. My weightloss does not seem as good as everyone else. I am 20 down but if I do it by the operation day I am only 11 pounds down in two weeks. Is that slow? I have not cheated. I want to make sure I take advanatage of this period. Today I started on soft foods only ate a litte but could have ate more. everyone seems that they dont want food but I feel hungry or maybe it is just my head not sure. Anyway taking it day by day.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
