Are There Any Picky Eaters That Have Had This Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I just completed my 6 month insurance required waiting period and everything has been submitted to my insurance for approval. I will be getting my cardiac clearance letter next week. After my insurance approves, all that is left for me to do is go to my doctor and select a surgery date. If everything goes well, I should have surgery by November. I am not nervous because I want this so bad. I NEED to lose about 150 lbs. I am overall pretty healthy with the exception of arthritis in both knees. I am a very picky eater. I do not eat any type of seafood. I eat very few vegetables and fruits. I eat meat but I can live without it. My biggest problem is SUGAR. From what I understand about this surgery, I will eventually be able to eat pretty much anything but in very small amounts and to make wiser food choices altogether. I want to be that person that someday can have a bite of pie and be satisfied rather than eating 2 or 3 pieces. Is there anyone out there with a eating history like mine that has had this surgery and been successful? How long after surgery (days, weeks, months, years) is a person able to eat normal foods? Any help would be appreciated.

Picky eater here!!!!!

So, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE sweets... since being sleeved, I cannot tolerate buttery, really sweet things... My taste buds and my tummy don't like it!! I can have chocolate every once and a while (usually during my TOM)... I tried a big spoonful of creme brulee and let's just say... NEVER IN this LIFE or the next!!!

My tastes totally changed.. I'm still very picky and try hard to incorporate veggies with each meal.. I don't eat fruit at all.... So, I bought a juicer and try to juice 3/4 times a week...

You really won't know until after your sleeve heals and you've tried different foods.. Getting sleeved was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life!!!

Thanks for the input. Since posting yesterday I got my insurance approval letter in the mail last night so I hope to have my surgery some time in November. My current weight is 340 so I have a large amount to lose.

Picky would be an understatement for me.

Let's see, ice cream, I would only eat Hagen Daas, Ben & Jerry's, Coldstone, ot Andy's --- cheesecake, my wife makes the Best, cheesecake factory was a sacrifice for me--- pies, well I really didn't do any fruit pies but a good peach cobbler never survived long around me--- this only lists a few of the "treats" I'd eat.

Let's keep it real though. You need to be ready for a lifestyle change. Yes, as time progresses you'll be able to eat small portions of anything. But to start you will be very limited and will need to Mae some sacrifices to get the best results.

I can't wait to get started. I really want to get this done a.s.a.p. and not be embarrassed to go out with my husband on New Years Eve!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
