i had my surgery on Thursday the 27th. My stomach isn't hungry. But my mind is constantly telling me i want food. I think it just takes time to get used to. Your eating habits changed drastically. your mind needs time to adjust. Hang in there the results will be worth it. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Lol! Maybe that's what's going on, but I feel the rumble in there lol!!! It can be mental as well since I haven't had food in over 4 weeks! I can't wait till I begin my purée stage!!! Lol thank you

Same here. I'm almost 3 weeks and I want sassy foods. Tonight I made lasagna for family and I had Tomato Soup. I made them apple crisp for desert and I had unsweetened applesauce (I did add cinnamon and sugar- ya do what's the point of unsweetened right?). I want brownies popcorn m&m's etc. still waiting for head hunger and cravings to lesson

Aww that sucks!!! I have read there are alternatives for lasagne once you reach the purée stage! Trust me I can't wait to get there! I love applesauce and I can't wait to eat some again lol!!! Little by little I believe we will be able to overcome this, the beginning is always hard! Everything should be getting better soon :)

hopefully' date=' you should be done by now right? hope so! I am on day 9 of my liquid diet and I feel the same way! I thought it would be better, some hours of the day are better than others, I keep drinking Water, tea, eating Jello, pudding, popsicles. it's hard for me, especially at work where people are always eating. Be strong, you should be done with it by now and it will all be a memory. i come here to get moral support and remind myself that i will soon be posting how much better it will be 'afterwards'.

Have Faith everyone, we are doing something to better ourselves and live a healthy life![/quote']

I wish I could tell you I was done!!! I'm still on liquids! :( according to the receptionist at my doctors office they still don't have the nutritionist schedule! I was supposed to start tommorow, but god knows when that'll be! And YES!! I keep thinking it'll get better, it'll get better! I just can't wait to eat something! Anything!!!! Lol and yes I agree! We are doing something to better ourselves ! Thank you! :)

After years of consuming lots of calories, of course our bodies feel like they are starving. It's not head hunger, you are lacking all those nutrients you are used to. It takes time to get acclimated. And not everyone loses their REAL hunger, some people still feel real hunger and head hunger. Once you start with more solid foods you will start to feel a lot better. Hang in there!!

I sure hope so. Now I'm hungry again and it's 8:38. I am thinking- ignore it or go eat a sf pudding? I hate when I think about this stuff.

I am 4 weeks out I felt after 1week like I was hungry I asked myself did they really take my stomach lol. Then puree I ate but got hungry sometimes. Then I started to go away. If I got hungry 1z of cottage cheese ur a string cheese or 1oz cheddar and I was ok. Now at 4 weeks I only feel hungry if I go along time between meals, like 6 hours after waking up. It does get better.

Thanks. That's hopeful :). I go back to work Thursday and I'm hoping that will be the same for me. I do fine controlling it and never ever overdo it.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
