Low Bmi Questionnnnnn

Recommended Posts

I am happy to have lost 30# just seems like it is going soooo slowly, I don't want it to come to a hault. 25 in 6 weeks is totally different than 30 in 12, I would be happy with that too. I am happy with my sleeve and have no regrets yet, but with the 5 to 7 pound weight loss the past 2 months that scares me esp if your weight loss slows down after 6 months.

You are right, they are different and I do understand your feelings. Anyone would cringe at the idea that we went through all this for 25-30 or so pounds, but this too will pass for you and you will see promising breakthroughs I am sure of it !

You hit the nail on the head-just paranoid that I went through this for just a portion of the weight loss. But hoping your right and things will keep moving.

BTW- you look really good, 42? More like 32!

I have a question and i'm asking this only because i'm trying so hard to wrap my head around the whole BMI equation. I am not judging ANYONE on their choices to have this surgery.

If you have a BMI of 39 (just pulling this randomly) how much weight must you lose to be considered 'normal?' To me, it just seems like the whole equation of BMI is slanted. It doesn't take muscles or heavier structure into consideration...or does it? Confused! And please don't send me a link to go look at a chart. I've looked at plenty and still think it's skewed. ;)

Thanks!

BMI can definitely be misleading-for example my husbands BMI considers him overweight but he is all muscle and ripped lol. It doesn't account for muscle. But I am physically overweight and my bmi is quite accurate. My doctor has a scale that measures your lean body mass, fat, Water, etc. and I am or was about 44% body fat! So it really does vary on the person. But I would say if your BMI is THAT high(30-40), its probably not muscle.

As far as weight, I needed to lose 98# to be considered a normal BMI and 113 to get to my personal goal weight.

I started out with a BMI of 39 .rght now I am 3 months post op and have only lost 30 pounds . 15 the first two weeks and then the other 15 the past2 and a half months. Last month I only lost 5 pounds do you think that this is extremly slow?

I am also in the same boat as you are. I've only lost 30lbs in 6wks including a week of pre-op and getting depressed thinking I went thru all this for 30lbs. I had a low bmi as well so I know exactly how you feel.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
