Gaining Back Some Weight And So Upset

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve done in March (2012)(replacing a slipped lap band that was 1 1/2 yrs old) After the sleeve I got down to my goal pretty quick - I didnt have much left to loose so it was wonderful! After July we went on a road trip and I came back gaining back 10 lbs. I was horrified!! I started working out now, crossfit 6 days a week. I am seeing changes in my arms and muscles etc but the scale is killing me. I am now up 15 lbs and I am freaking out. I am convinced that I have completely stretched out my sleeve and will be overweight again very soon. What am i doing wrong??? :(

Hopefully you are gaining muscles from all the working out and thus the weight increase. keep working out!

You could try the pouch test. It is actually for bypass patients, but I have heard of many people using it to get back on track with their eating.

From what I understand, you can not "stretch" out your sleeve in the same sense as a bypass patient can stretch their pouch. What is left of the stomach is the more muscular firmer part and stretches very little. I am not sure if you track or not, but maybe start writing down everything that you have been eating and just see. You could also be retaining fluids from hormones or salty foods.

You can do it! The thing that I have found that is wonderful about the sleeve is that it is so much easier to get back on track and get things back under control!

Thanks! I have never heard of that test, so that will at least put my mind at ease that I didnt ruin all that work! and yes the sleeve is WAY better than the lapband! I realized too I got back in the habit of drinking and eating at the same time...EEK!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
