Joggers/runners-a question

Recommended Posts

Last week I jogged lots and lots and now I have this pain beneath (toward my internal organs) my belly button. It has hurt for about 5 days and I will defininitely get to the doc if it still hurts after a few more days. It doesn't hurt when I lay down but it hurts most when I pick up my son or just walking around.

Anybody know what this might be?

Dear Fauxnaif,

Your symptoms sound familiar... I had an emergency umbilical hernia repair three years ago. This year, in the process of losing 95 pounds after banding in January, I took up a great exercise routine, but found myself in pain around the belly button area again, once painfully sending me to the ER. I just got done having hernia surgery again,(two weeks ago) this time to repair the previous site (which had opened up again) and all the "Swiss cheese" defects surrounding it... all in the umbilical area. My Doc was aware of the occasional pain I'd been having, and we had hoped to wait for the repair until next year when I hope to have the panni surgery. Unfortunately, I couldn't wait but am very happy to be on the other side of the surgery now. Can't wait to exercise again, with NO pain!

Good luck, check with your doctor, but you could definitely be having symptoms of umbilical herna. I had mine for many years, but always figured the pain went with the territory of just being fat. Your body has a way of telling your something is wrong... so be blessed and take good care of yourself!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
