The Wls Honeymoon --- You Only Get 1 Chance At It!

I found this great article about the importance of the first 6-12 months (depending on how much you have to lose) after surgery.... it really made me realize I've got to make the most of that time.

I know the veteran Sleevers know this stuff but I thought the newbies and pre-surgery sleevers (like me) would be interested. It's a gastric bypass website but all the vital info is the same for Sleevers.

I'm from new Orleans too....when and where are you having your surgery?

Hi,

My doc is Dr. Lavin -- the surgery will be in Slidell at Southern Surgical. My 90 day Aetna requirement is up 11/14..so I'm hoping for the end of November. What about you?

Great article, and I feel it is very applicable to "my sleeve experience"

So, at about 7 months or so post op, I noticed my appetite returning. so lets me clear, sometime a few months post op when I got over the "head hunger" until that moment, I had very little interest in food. I could have probably not eaten all day and felt fine. I was fine with whatever because food didn't taste that great and I just didn't have "interest". I ate small quantities, several times aday but would forget meals too. What started changing about 7 or so months post op is that food started becoming more appealing. Like, my interest in it piped up, my taste buds decideded they liked food again.

My surgeon's office and nutrtionalist both said - just keep portions small - whatever you do, keep portions small so you retain that feeling of restriction. I have tried very hard to comply with that, and am still losing weight, albeit slower. I do find tempting food, more tempting, I do find the urge to snack returning, that sort of thing.

I don't diet and if I really did that I could probably get going faster

Very interesting! Thanks.

So my question is when the appetite comes back at 6 months, you are still restricted. Because 'pouchie' is still small. You can just eat a bit more than you could post-surgery, but as much as pre-surgery. Right? So at 6 months your good eating habits should be in place so that you don't fill your pouch with junk when you get hungry.

At least...thats what I got from it. :-)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
