Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

Momto3 - I'm not sure how the FB site was started but it's awesome! It's a private site so our posts are seen on that page only' date=' not on our regular FB - keeps our WLS stuff "between us." The administrators have to approve people to join too. You might research it and perhaps start your own group for your surgeons patients.[/quote']

Tell me more about the FB group. Is it just for us Sept people?

Had my surgery on Sept 7. I have lost a total of 85 pounds since preop. 50 lbs since surgery. I went down 5 sizes in pants and now shop in the regular dept instead of big and tall. If feels great' date=' but weird. Would not change it for the world. Still adjusting to the amount of eating, but having no trouble with whatever I eat.[/quote']

Great job Ray!!!

Having one of "those" days. Days when I think my stomach may be normal and I broke it (although the amount of food is still the same). Just thought that I would be losing a little faster than I am. Not that I'm totally complaining. Just worried that those few pounds might just be it. Could be the TOM talking. But like I said' date=' it's one of those days.[/quote']

I feel the same way. My surgery date was Sept 12 and as of today I've only lost 29 pounds. I so was hoping I could be like several of you who have lost more weight. I know I shouldn't compare myself but its hard when you hear such success from everyone. I guess this body of mine wants to hold on to this weight as long as it can.

Just playing the waiting game ????

So we're all discovering this surgery isn't a magic bullet - DRATS!!! This is actually work - mental' date=' physical, emotional....... Takes a TON of discipline. And let's face it, this is not much fun.

But think back to pre-surgery days. That wasn't much fun either. At least for me, I still obsessed about food, just in a different way. Before, my thoughts focused on the next meal - where would I eat, what would I eat, what was for dessert. then how bad I would feel having eaten yet another fat and calorie laden meal and I would feel miserably overstuffed.

Now my obsession is with grams of Protein, ounces of Fluid, calories. But this feels better in the long run. Most of the time.

I haven't "cheated" at all so far (surgery was 9/10). Started at 265.4 - as of Monday I was at 222.1. I haven't lost as much as I would like to have at this point, but I have to take the blame - I have dome so little exercise. I was doing well at walking initially but that has fallen off since work has gotten much busier. So I do have some control over increasing the rate of loss. And really, it's not that bad as it is.

Adjusting to this new life is interesting. It's a challenge. But everyday, I'm still glad I did it.[/quote']

I'm guilty of lack of exercise too. I did we'll in the beginning but since its gotten colder I don't want to go out and walk. I guess it's time to find inside exercise.

I don't really know if anyone ever reads my post since I never get much feed back but I still want to share.

It's been 2 months today since I've been sleeved. I've been blessed to have given another chance at life since I had diabetes. Yes HAD its been in remission since day 3. I've lost a total of 22 after surgery and a total of 42 lbs. I am 30 lbs away from goal.

Hope everyone else is doing good.

That is so wonderful!!!! I can't wait till I can say I'm 30 away from goal.

I was also told no popcorn (gooey and sticks to inside of your belly- she said eventually she will allow air popped)

So instead I overcompensate with everything else. This bites

NG - I'm eating around 700 - 800 calories and try to get about 100 grams of Protein a day. No breads or Pasta. My hardest thing is trying to get my fluids in. I've never been a big drinker.

I go to the gym at least 2 times a week. My goal is to really try to up my gym time over the next few weeks. I would like to go 5 times a week.

I figure I have a lot more to lose than the average sleever so I need to really take advantage of the first six months.

Namada - that is amazing! I can't believe how much you've lost. I'm quite big and only lost 27 pounds in 2 months, I thought I'd lose faster since I have so much to lose but unfortunately that's not happening :(

NG - I'm glad you are feeling better today :-)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
