I found this ariticle going through google i hope it helps someone understand how food and beverage work in our new tummy's

First, I’m not a doctor nor have I ever played one on TV.

This may be old news to some..... But I’ve noticed a lot of people who have had VSG do not have any idea how the Pyloric Valve works.

This is my understanding how the Pyloric Valve works.

The Pyloric Valve function and how it pertains to your VSG.

The function of your Pyloric valve is the single most not talked about important part of understanding how and when you should eat and drink.

The Pyloric Valve is just that....It is a valve that is located at the bottom of your stomach/sleeve. This valve is in between your sleeve and the lower intestine. The basic definition of a valve is an apparatus that opens and closes.

When open this valve it is about the diameter of a dime. When closed it’s opening is closed down to the diameter of the head of a ballpoint pen.

Dense Proteins and harder to digest foods will cause the Pyloric valve to close to hold the food in your stomach for pre-digestion...... stomach acids breaking down this “Rough” food.

That’s why we are told to eat dense Proteins first.....To close the Pyloric Valve so food stays in your stomach/sleeve longer so we have a sense of satisfaction.

It takes about 30-60 minutes for the food to clear the Pyloric Valve...... Than it’s OK to drink.

That is also where the term slider food comes into play. A slider food does not close the Pyloric Valve and as the term is intended.....food slides right past an open Pyloric Valve.

There is a video that gets posted every so often that is supposed to explain food going past the Pyloric Valve. The guy uses a funnel and has apple sauce or something in it....and it shows the apple sauce dripping out the end of the funnel very slow. Than he pours Water on top of the apple sauce to dilute it, illustrating drinking after eating.....and the diluted apple sauce runs through the funnel end faster. Than he concludes that this is how your pyloric valve

Thanks newgrandmother, that was very informative. I wasn't sure why we couldn't eat and drink at the same time, I have a hard time not taking a sip when I eat.

Thank you, I'm losing slowly but as of today 25 pounds. I just started going to the gym this week so hopefully the weight will come off quicker. I fit into a pair of jeans I haven't worn in two years, I'm happy!

How have you been doing?

Thanks for that I formation it was really cool to read and I have never heard about that part of the stomach. I think u r a week behind me and your going through the faze I just came out of. I promise it does not last long and the next faze is so much better. At 8 weeks your stomach is really doing a lot better. You start to be able to eat without feeling sick and your self esteem pops up a little.

becca i got on the scale today and guess what it was up 3lbs sighhhhhhhhhhhhhh. i know why it was the excess sodium about 3 days ago. now i have to get this Water off of me.

green you are very welcome.

i know we are not suppose to drink caffiene but i have to drink coffee today to release some of this water wieght. plus ive been doing squats and building muscle the water gets trapped in there. so a grande americano for me today and lots of water.

after losing 5lbs last week and gaining 3 with in a few days it got me down. this is one of the reasons i dont want to do toning right now because i am a scale person and muscle wieghs more than fat. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

NGM - Try to only weigh yourself once/week. I started doing that and it really helps! And weigh yourself the same time of the day each time. I've started weighing on Monday mornings.

I've started drinking coffee again 3-4 times/week. It suppresses my appetite (since I'm one of the unfortuate ones who stills feels hunger - real hunger, NOT head hunger - please let's not start that debate again :) ). It doesn't seem to have any affect on my stomach - on days I drink coffee I drink an extra few ounces of Water to compensate.

Will know in the morning if I've broken the stall I've been in. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
