Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

Recommended Posts

Even though I am cleared to eat a greater variety of foods than I am currently eating, I go back to earlier options. It doesn't make sense, but I also try little bits of things that are not quite allowed yet. My sleeve is guiding me, not my mouth. Regardless of how my taste buds feel about it, if my sleeve likes it then it gets what it likes.

I had some organic chicken and vegetables baby food for supper last night. Even salt didn't help the taste much, but my sleeve loved it and I could eat the whole 3 oz. I also had 1.5 whites from two boiled eggs. Both worked great.

Vegan black bean Soup at lunch last Thursday was a bust. I probably had 4 spoons of the broth and maybe 10 Beans in all. That was all I could take of that. Unfortunately, a shortbread cookie went down just fine. Trying some Pork rinds from the break room at work was a truly horrible idea. I felt like concrete had been poured in my stomach and the feeling lasted for over 4 hours.

I still haven't thrown up anything so far, nor have I felt even close to that experience. What I do feel is something like having a handfull of gravel in my stomach, which is extremely unpleasant. I don't see giving up shakes anytime in the foreseeable future. They are too soothing to my stomach, regardless of what my taste buds think.

Most days I eat under 500 calories and I've lost 29 lbs in 40 days which is probably an average loss. I've seen a lot of people who have lost a lot more and a lot less in the same amount of time. I've gone over 500 a few times, but not very far and those were days when I was tasting something I probably shouldn't have.

My surgery was 9/10. I'm eating about 600 calories/day and at least 60 gr Protein. Keeping carbs around 50-60 but if I go over, I'm not too concerned. Not enough fat to even worry about.

I eat pretty much any meat I want - chicken (grilled or canned), shrimp (boiled or grilled), salmon (grilled or canned), tuna (canned - though I'm going to have seared tonight!), steak, hamburger, other grilled fish. No problems with any of it. I eat 2 oz at lunch & 2 oz at dinner. Along with a veggie and a starch once a day, I'm content - not stuffed, not still hungry. Can't always finish all of the veggie and starch.

Veggies - no problems with cooked or raw. No problems with fruit but I don't eat much of it.

LOTS of Greek yogurt (vanilla or flavored or with fruit on the bottom - I LOVE the Dannon Light & Fit - only 80 calories, 12 gr protein & 9 carbs). Yogurt is what I almost always have for Breakfast during the week. Cottage cheese (2%) - love it with some applesauce & cinnamon "sugar" (I use Nectesse instead of sugar)

I've lost 40 pounds so far (includes 9 that I lost on the pre-surgery diet). Not quite as fast as I'd like to be losing, but I'm OK with it. Especially since I'm not exercising like I should be.

Weird thing is that while my jeans are definitely looser, I don't feel that I've really gone down a size. But maybe they were just that much on the tight side before :( Shirts are certainly looser and I've gone from a 2x to a 1x though I still wear many of my 2x's - they're just a bit large now.

Can't wait until I really need to toss all of my current clothes!!!!!

I need to get back on the exercise bandwagon.

I'm finally feeling better. Better in that I'm not as tired...so I'm cooking again. Right now some Mulligatawny Stew is stewing in my kitchen. Calls for white rice....yeah, I don't think so...got some brown rice. Thought about quinoa when I got home from the store. Next time. Man it smells good with the curries in it. It's just filling the house with yumminess.

Okay GETTING THERE, here you go:

1 cup chopped onion ( I just chopped two smaller onions)

4 stalks celery, chopped

3 carrots, diced (I added an extra one...generally it's 2)

1/2 cup butter

3 Tbs. all-purpose flour

1 Tbs curry powder, reg

1 Tbs red curry powder

8 cups chicken broth

2 apples, peeled, cored & chopped

1 cup brown rice (cooked separately in more chicken broth)

3 skinless, boneless chicken breasts

Salt and pepper

2 pinches (about 1 tsp.) thyme

1 cup heavy cream, heated

Saute onions, celery, carrots & butter in large Soup pot. Add flour & curries and cook for 5 minutes, adding chicken stock slowly to make sure there are no lumps. Add salt and pepper to your taste (I used about 1 tsp. salt and maybe 1/2 tsp. of pepper). Add in chicken breasts and bring to a boil. Cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours. Meanwhile, cook brown rice according to directions on your package. Chop apples. Remove chicken. Add apples, and shred chicken and add back to the pot. Add cooked brown rice. Add cream when serving.

This makes a BIG pot. You can easily halve the recipe. I'm kind of a non-measuring type of cook, although I did measure the curries. Now, you don't have to use red curry at all. You can just use the regular kind. The red is just a bit more spicey, but it's really good. And since this vsg, I find I need more flavor in my food. It's so weird. I also made a big pot, cause I honestly don't want to have to cook every stinking night. I love left overs. And Soups and stews just get better as the days go by. My family will be having crusty bread with this. I probably will have a bite of the bread. But that's all. Tiny tum can only hold so much.

Enjoy!!!

I'm getting about 70 grams of Protein.

The idea is to get about 22-25 per meal.

Breakfast

1 scrambled egg with 2 oz turkey sausage= 21

1/2 banana.

2 tbs avocado.

lunch

3 oz moist chicken 21 Protein

1 cup salad

Low fat dressing

Apple

dinner

3 oz baked white fish= 21 protein

1/2 cup zucchini

1/2 cup low sugar fruit cup

Before I get any grief about this being to much food' date=' hear me out.

My NUT said to focus on the protein first with a little of the veggies (to avoid constipation) if you can't finish everything try to come back within an hour to finish

the meal. If not split it into 2 small meals.

I have been doing this and it really does work. I haven't had another Protein shake which is okay with me.[/quote']

Thank you for sharing. I'm going to try some of this and I like the idea of if I don't finish something just have it a later in the day.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
