I need help- Banding 10-9-2006

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I have been reading the website for a couple weeks now off and on and doing some research, but I have few questions and concerns. I would really appreciate any help and advice you have to give. I am being banded 10-9-2006 by Dr Kuhn, at Baylor Dallas. If anyone has heard much about him, I would really like to hear from you. I spent time in his office this past week, where a psycologist told me I would fail at the band and tried to push me into the bypass. I could tell at my first seminar with the Baylor doctors they were pro gastric bypass, but it just flat scares me. I have heard stories from people I work with who have had gastric. Anyway I have spent the day reading Lapband and came across a site about removal of the band and reasons why. I wish I had never gone there. I would love to hear positives right now.

I do have two questions that I am not sure about. Can you tell my why they dont want you to drink before or after a meal? Also why are Fiber foods bad to eat? I saw asparagus on the list and it made no sense.

I am not backing down but I am a little nervous right now. I have spent a lifetime on a weight roller coaster and I am ready to get off the ride.

Hello Lady, a big welcome to LBT and congratulations on your decision.

To find out about a particular doctor I would suggest visiting the Doctors and Hospitals forum, the thread for your state in the US support forum and also doing a search using the search button at the top of the main page.

Keep us all posted on how you're doing.

Welcome to LBT! Everyone is different as to what they can or cannot eat. I pretty much eat everything, but like I said some can't.

You don't drink during or after a meal so that you don't wash your food through and it stays with you longer.

Good Luck, and keep us posted!

What you'll find is every person is very different when it comes to food vs. band! It depends upon your restriction as well (how tight your band is filled).

I can eat most foods with no problem (slowly, chewing carefully).

You will find that some doctors will be pro band, pro bypass...that goes for support groups as well. Make sure your support team is pro band, as there is nothing more frustrating then going to a doctor appointment with a negative vibe.

Shawn

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
