Should I Feel This Way?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Tuesday with no complications or pain. Was released on Wednesday and sipped on one Vitamin Water all day as I was really too nauseated to try any Jello or Protein Shake. Wednesday night I developed severe nausea and dry heaves. Took the phenergan suppositories they gave me and it helped a little. Slept very little due to excruciating shoulder pain I was told was from gas. Called my surgeon who said I should stick to water and Isopure until further notice.

Anyway to cut to the chase, it's now 4 days post op and I am not having any nausea at all, I am able to drink about 1 litre of water a day and about half of an Isopure (which is only 75 calories). Have been taking 2-4 walks a day and still have this shoulder pain. Am I too restricted? It seems like the only day I didn't have any shoulder pain is when I was too nauseated to drink anything for 20 hours. Tried Gas-X and heat.

Is 75 calories a day a good idea? I can't see drinking any more isopure without causing this pain and am afraid of causing the nausea to return.

Anyone else went through this? When did it get better? :help:

The shoulder pain will be there several days, sometimes weeks after surgery. It will get better, I promise! Please keep yourself hydrated. And no, 75 calories a day isn't a good idea. Try some warm broth, or popsicles. Are you supposed to be on Clear liquids, or can you move onto full liquids yet?

I loved hot chai tea w high Protein milk. Protein really helps you heal and not feel so weak-ish.

This too shall pass!! Good luck with your new life!

Thanks leatha_g. I am still supposed to be only Clear Liquids until I see the surgeon on Thursday. If cannot start to consume more calories though, I think I might call him sooner. Thanks again.

Yes.....I agree with the above post, it is normal to feel that way due to the gas. They literally inflate your stomach to do the surgery and it has to reasorb and work its way out, walking DOES help. The Isopure is not causing the discomfort, the remnant gas is to blame. Drink away, and in a few more days (according to YOUR docs schedule) start adding some Protein and Vitamin shakes, you will feel so much better.

I had a HORRIBLE time with the nausea, and I, too, couldn't really eat or drink anything but Water. I hate Isopure.......ugh!!! I think it creates a cycle. You're nauseated b/c you can't eat and you can't eat b/c you're nauseated. However, your body will begin to conserve too much if you don't get some calories. My doc told me to eat Jello with sugar, sweetened ice tea, and popsicles with sugar, so that I could get some calories. AND STAY HYDRATED! I made it through, but it was rough for a couple weeks!

I believe it was at least a couple of weeks before the gas pains really subsided totally. It's tough, but you are tougher!

You might try baby simethicone drops...Little Tummies, I think. You only have to get a few drops down, and I thought it helped a lot. I still use it sometimes, when I feel gassy.

Hang in there. It will get better!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
