Fever 9 Days Post Op

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone&Shoot!, Well, I'm scared. Been doing great until this evening. Had a mild fever immediately post op that resolved, but now, it's back. I've read all of the 'Complications' posts, but couldn't easily find anything about 'fever'--am going to go back&check all posts. Any thoughts or help would be much appreciated. Thank you!!

Fever is an indication of infection (please forgive me if that was totally stating the obvious), but since you're only 9 days out, I'd would contact my doc pronto ! Best to take no chances... Wishing you all the best !

Thanks, LizInTexas, I need to hear the obvious right now because I am scared to death& would do anything to not be away from my little boy, age 6, for another night, but I know I need to address it otherwise could have to be away from him for many more potential hospitalized nights. Thank you for responding--Hugs!

You're very welcome :) Sending prayers and good thoughts your way ! It could very well be something that some antibiotics will knock right out so just take a deep breath, count to 10, and make that call !

Oh, you're right. It could just be a simple infection, couldn't it? That thought gives me some courage to make the call in the a.m. Thank you!!

My doc also says early out you can run low grade fever if you're not getting all your fluids. In my case this has proven to be very true. Still call your doc though! =)

Thank you, LA_dreamer, I hadn't heard that before, so thank you! For the 1st time, I didn't get all of my fluids in yesterday&was even a little low today. It would be nice if that's what the Dr. thinks. Please keep your fingers crossed for me. Thank you!

My dr said a low fever may happen (I ended up having one a few days out) but anything over 100 to call him. Just FYI :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
