Pre/post Op Diet

Recommended Posts

I'm not sleeved yet, but the pre and post op diet freaks me out a little. sugar free this, fat free that....I like to eat clean, and this does not fall in line with that. I'm sure that a couple of months of that diet won't kill me, but did anyone out there feel like me? Did you do anything different? Thanks!!

Once your sleeved your caloric count is recommended around 700 calories a day, this needs to be mostly Proteins and very little carbs. Trick is to eat to live and then adjust your calories once you hit idea weight! If you intake fatty foods you will not get proper nutrition that your body needs. High carbs (sugars) are wasted calories! Once you are sleeved you (I) do not feel hungry phyiscally, I sometimes have to remind myself to eat! The emotional eating is main issue you have to deal with and keep that tiger I n it's cage! Never let it out again! My sleeve was on aug 1,2012 I'm down 55lbs and 90 to go! Good luck on your Quest !

I won't lie, it was tough! I was on preop diet and after surgery went 20 days before I tried soft foods! I did not have and to this day really dont have phyiscal hunger , but on the emotional side I could eat a*****e of skunk and ask for seconds ! It's getting easier each day !

Listen to your nut and drs diet! If you do go off deep end and cheat after surgery, you can damage surgery and get real sick, I was told it hurts to puke! I watched co worker do this and it scared me to stay on straight and narrow!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
