Pills Why Not Liquid

Recommended Posts

I was sent home with antacid pills and gallstone prevent pills. Do they come in liquid? I cant stand crushing then and the after taste. I'm afraid to gag so I'm doing it very slow. I'm afraid ill make a whole if I drink it to fast. Can i?

I'm 3 months out and still have to open the capsules on my omeprazole and actigall. I put it in sugar free pudding to make it more palatable.

My doctor said as long as the pill is pea sized or smaller, to go ahead and swallow as normal. Hope this helps!

Zantac is available in a liquid, and Prevacid is available in a "solutab" (orange flavored). I don't know about others. (I take both Zantac and Prevacid, and have had no issues with acid since starting the cocktail.) The Actigall I mix in unsweetened applesauce, and can't taste anything from the medicine (I use 1/3 of an individually packed cup of applesauce with each dose of Actigall.) Check with your pharmacist about liquid/chewable/solutab options for prescription meds....he/she should be able to tell you if they're available. (Walgreens has been very helpful to me.)

Best of luck!

Laura

Its nice to find someone "from home"! :)

Be warned...the liquid Zantac has a strong flavor to it...not quite sure how to describe it. LOL When I take it, I follow it with my applesauce/Actigall mix, and the applesauce cleans the taste from my mouth in one bite. Its not as bad as liquid Colace (which was truly revolting), but its definitely a face twister. LOL

I am only 4 days out and i have no issues swallowing the pills whole. They aren't big at all so they shouldn't be a problem. Just do one at a time with a sip of Water. Wish you the best!

A great tip I got from my nurse just before I left the hospital is when trying to get the yucky flavors of liquid meds or crushed pills down, chase them with a little watered down grape juice. The flavor even when watered down, is strong enough to kill the yucky tastes :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
