Good Snacks?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I am 5 wks out this Friday and I am pretty much eating Breakfast, lunch and dinner with 1 maybe 2 Snacks through the day. Just wondering what you all pick up when you are a little hungry in between that is good, Protein rich and quick/easy? I have been having a slice of turkey lunchmeat or a reduced fat string cheese or babybell, etc. Pretty much feels almost like a meal to me because I get full, but I know it is not.

So, just curious what else do you have just during those in between....especially if you are busy out running around or something, you are hungry and frankly it is time to eat but you arent home and cant eat a real meal?

Ideas?

edamame or beef Jerky but you are probably kind of early for those - both have about 14 grams of Protein in a serving

Boy ... a real meal ... at 5 weeks ... I don't think I had a *real meal* until I was 6 months out. Or at least what I would consider a real meal.

I never really differentiated between a snack and a meal since they were pretty much the same thing. I ate what I was comfortable with at whatever time. Didn't worry about quantifying it as a *meal* or a *snack*.

So, yes, while my family ate a hamburger for dinner, I would have a baby belle and a small section of sliced turkey. They might have some cheese and crackers after school and I would eat some lentil Soup.

Just eat what you can, when you can and call it good.

Jerky, Protein bar, sliced deli meats, cheese, yogurt ...

I'm 5 wks out too and I'm in love with Trader Joe's turkey Jerky. It's softer than regular jerky. Half a low cal Protein Bar, yogurt, Soup, turkey meatballs, thin lunch meat...I still have 2 Protein Shakes a day too.

This sounds like me exactly.

Love TJ's turkey jerky. I did 2 Protein Shakes a day as well.

The fabulous faux cheese Nip~

Take one Kraft single (I like sharp cheddar), slice it 3 directions one way, and 3 the other to make 16 little squares - place them on parchment paper and microwave them for 45-60 seconds in the microwave. Mine turn out perfect, puffy and crispy at 50 seconds. It makes a nice, light crispy snack that mimics a cracker :)

Nutrition: 60 cals, 4 g Protein, 2 carb, 4.5 fat

Thanks for all of the idea, especially the "cheese nip" I loooooooove cheese!! Unfortunately we do NOT have a Trader Joes around here...I so wish we did. They are supposed to be opening one in a city a little more than an hour from me and thats as close as I get, not even opened yet!! That Stinks....

I will try some different ideas though....I do find the jerkey nuggets are softer, but I still dont really like eating chicken because it just "sits there" not sure about jerkey yet...for me anyway?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
