Dr Amit Trivedi

Recommended Posts

I'm happy to report that I finally received insurance approval' date=' but not without a lot of hounding the surgical coordinator. I definitely should have gone through the supervisor as you did. The original (less than helpful) surgical coordinator was replaced. The new coordinator at least returned my calls (albeit 2-3 days later). So, I now just have to re-do a few of the medical clearance tests again. My surgery is set for March 29, 2013!

And yes, there is a 1 hour post surgery class. My dad had a gastric bypass performed by Dr. Trivedi in January & I brought him to the class. I was lucky to get a sneak peek at what lies ahead after my sleeve. It was an informative class about how to get through the 3 stages of the healing diet.

Good luck with you surgery![/quote']

Hi Kennedy310,

How did your surgery go? How do you feel now? I'm getting Iron infusions for several weeks and then will hopefully be ready for surgery. How was your experience with HUMC? How is your dad?

Be well

By any chance is Dr. Trivedi's coordinator named Shannon?

I don't even remember who my first coordinator was. I have been waiting all week for a call back about rescheduling my surgery! I'll have to call on Monday. They need to get their act together.

I highly suggest asking for Michelle, the supervisor of the coordinators. She is a sweetheart, and much more responsive to patients than the regular coordinator. Extension 205, I believe.

Hi IndigoSkye-

My gastric sleeve surgery went well. I've had a few digestive issues along the way, but nothing too extraordinary & all have been things that I've been able to manage & get through with a few adjustments. My body just needed a little extra time to adjust to the new digestive system. I'm 9 weeks out from surgery & I feel great. My energy is back, I've lost 65 lbs & most importantly, I feel healthier.

Dr. Trivedi & his surgical team did a great job. I had a terrific experience at Hackensack. The nursing staff I had was really nice & attentive to my needs. They encouraged me to get up & walk around and move. That was a big help in recovery.

And my dad is doing great as well. He is 5 months out from his gastric bypass surgery & he has lost over 80lbs. He has better energy now & is getting around on his bad knee so much easier than he was pre-surgery.

I agree with eboychik... call Michelle if you are having problems with your coordinator. My first coordinator was a nightmare as I explained above. She was "moved to another department" because she didn't know what she was doing. i was hopeful with a new coordinator, but although she was more responsive, she was still learning & clearly had too many cases. it always took at least a day for her to return my calls. of course that was better than the first coordinator who just never called me back. Definitely call Michelle & get what you need. It's a shame that such a great surgeon has such a problematic staff handling the insurance approvals. At one point, my coordinator was having problems because my insurance is through California. She advised me to change my insurance to New Jersey. Um, yeah, not the solution. Haha

Good luck with your surgery approval. Let us know when you get approval.

It seems to be a very good practice. I especially like Stephanie, the nutritionist there.

I had a similar issue with my surgeon's office and considered changing to another surgeon. Luckily, I started talking to someone who actually was willing and able to answer all my questions, even though insurance was her area.

The bottom line for me was the surgeon. He's world-renowned, past president of the American Bariatric Surgery group and currently on its board of directors. He's the guy other surgeons send their problems to. With my age and my size, I was a high risk patient.

It's like a man ... a good one is hard to find! <grin>

I'm scheduled for gastric sleeve on March 6, 2015 with Dr. Trivedi. He is very passionate and took his time explaining things to me. His office staff, is another story.

His coordinator, Jassmin, ext 224, hasn't returned a phone call yet. I finally contacted Michelle, ext 205, who was able to confirm mt surgery date was locked in. If I didn't like Dr. Trivedi, I would have found another group to deal with.

I'm looking for a weekly support group in Bergen County....anybody know of any?

Dr. Sebastian Eid, one of the other Dr's in Advanced Laparoscopic Associates with Dr. Trivedi did my surgery. He was beyond wonderful.

I too had some initial issues with the office; incorrect info on approval procedure, my faxed paperwork was literally put to the side for a whole month because the new coordinator "didn't know who I was" (try looking in your computer or calling me at the number on my letterhead - big eye roll), I e-mailed the nutritionists about a dozen times asking for the post-surgical meal plan and still didn't have it days before surgery and was then told the nutritionists "didn't have e-mail any more" but no one could tell me why I was told I had to e-mail them for two months straight if they didn't have e-mail.

Jasmin was my coordinator too. She's overworked. They have a killer caseload.

Despite everything, I wouldn't even consider another surgical group.

Bottom line .... Dr's Eid, Schmidt, Trivedi and Ewing are the best of the best.

All of the doctors are great but the staff really does suck. Post surgery you become a no one. If you go back for nutritional evaluations they try to charge you when they stressed to you in the beginning that lifetime nutritional visits are FREE. I had a hassle when I went back and had to speak to three different people who each tried to charge me my copay. I'm let down that they really dont have post surgical support.

Their exact policy is "complimentary dietitian support" not lifetime nutritional visits are free. They should make it clearer that the support is over the phone. That is mentioned in a different paragraph of their literature.

Their monthly support group meetings are free.

@@JerseyCityGal Thats not what they told me and you're absolutely right...they should be clear about that. Overall, I'm a bit disappointed in their post surgical care or lack their of.

I have made it over the hurdles and I'm confirmed for sleeve surgery on Friday, March 6th. I am excited and cautiously optimistic.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
