I begin my pre-op diet this coming Tuesday and I will be on it for 1 week until my surgery on Tuesday, Sept 11.

I am guessing that since I live out of the US and have little access to a selection of the items that you guys talk about, like Protein Shakes etc, that is the reason that the Dr. gave me a little bit different diet than I see most of you guys having. I have to eat yogurt and juice for Breakfast and also for my 2 Snacks. For lunch and dinner I am supposed to have cream Soups made with veggies and at least 120 grams of chicken, Ground meat without the fat, or 2 egg whites and then either 1 small potato or 1/2 cup of choclo (corn).

After I got my list yesterday, I couldn't sleep for thinking about what I should cook for those days. I went to the store today and purchased a bunch of veggies and ingredients for the soups. So, I spent most of the day cooking. I made 9 different types of cream soups although it was difficult since I couldn't add any fat or milk and couldn't use any bouillon cubes. They all turned out pretty good, I guess. I have them in individual ziplocs for each meal in the freezer.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any good cream Soup recipes? I know that I will have 2 weeks after my surgery that I will be on this same diet plan and just wanting some ideas so I can go ahead and get some made to put in the freezer so I will be prepared and not have to cook while I am recuperating.

One more quick question. Do any of you have any suggestions for books to read regarding emotional eating? There are lots of books out there but I want to buy something that is helpful.

Have a great evening! So proud of all of you! You guys are inspiring!

His

Susie

For emotional eating, Eating By the Light of the Moon is the best I've read. I'm sure others will reply with other good ones.

Great job making all those soups! I'm in Atlanta where it's like 100 degrees with 100 percent humidity. Soup? Don't think this is the season for it here....

Good luck to you in your journey! Stay in touch. DeterminedGirl

I don't have anything for the cream Soups, but, for when you get to have real food again (soft food and further) these are my go to resources, and everything we've tried from here has been really good food.

Ceviche should be a great source of Protein for you. I started eating that as soon as I was cleared for soft foods.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
