Bougie Or Endoscope?

Recommended Posts

Went to my surgeon today, asked what size bougie he would be using. He said that he doesn't use a Bougie but rather an endoscope! Anyone else heard of this?

My surgeon uses both. The bougie is kind of just a guideline, not a true "pattern." My surgeon places the bougie, verifies with the endoscope, does the deed then double checks with another endoscope.

The endoscope and bougie are most likely about the same size, so, no big deal.

My surgeon uses the endo so he can see inside and outside at the same time. That's comforting.

My surgeon uses the endo tube as well and trust me....I have a tight sleeve, he told me so.

My surgeon does not use a bougie. My sleeve isn't overly tight, but tight enough. He follows a specific line of veins on the stomach for measurement.

Seems to work.

Parker77 how much longer is your wait for surgery. I did not know that Harrison does not us a bougie. Do you happen to know how many sleeves he has done and his stats as far as complications?

I met with my surgeon today and found out the same! He said the endoscope works out to about a 40f bougie but I read online it's more like a 32. Interesting..

Sorry just read your message! Sleeve date Nov 5th. He has told me he has had one leak out of hundreds of procedures. He doesn't use a bougie rather an endoscope. I think he is an amazing surgeon as I had him before to remove a cyst, ovary and Falobian Tube. He gives a **** about his patients along with his staff. Have u decided on a surgeon yet?

OK so you are scheduled for the 5th.. Nervous?? I had chosen Dr. Harrison from the beginning. Glad to know that you are confident in him. I am almost complete with my 5th month monitored. Hoping for Jan.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
