I actually haven't felt any hunger pains yet. I'm really on a schedule to make sure I'm getting my Protein in. In a way, it's very freeing to not obsess about what I'm going to eat. (But I can't wait to get to the soft food stage next week so I can taste something other than chocolate, Soup and fruit-flavored drinks!)

OK - I'm making an attempt at drinking a Protein Shake. Hope it goes down well.

Just take it slow. I was just sipping at first. We have a brand new digestive system and we have to re-learn how to use it.

I'm 2 days post-op too. All I've had so far is broth, sf Popsicles, sf Jello and G2. My mommy (I'm 36, lol) just went to the store to get V8 and creamed Soups for me to try. I'm glad, because my new stomach is hungry!!!!

The Tomato Soup went down fine - I made sure it was milk-free.

For gas, take Gas-X. I was taking 1 an hour on the first day post op. Also, walk - move around. Walking really helped.

Keep walking. It takes a while but eventually you will get relief. Most people have the gas for several days after they get home. Comes with the territory. And don't worry, gagging and passing gas will not rip open your sleeve. If it did, we all would have been in emergency surgery.

For me, it hurt much worse keeping it in. I don't remember any discomfort when it came out...kinda like a few hiccups, then it was over and I felt better.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
