Pep Talk! Was It Worth It?

Recommended Posts

Honestly, I'm one week out and have spent two days in icu and been to the ER twice. I am in constant pain and can not take care of my son (6). I had internal bleeding with the surgery and had to have blood transfusions. Last night as they were scanning me for blood clots I told my husband that I feel so irresponsible for having done this to myself.

I am low bmi with no complicating factors. Everyone kept saying that I would be the poster child for the long term benefits of the sleeve. What happened to me is not uncommon. When I was in the icu there was another woman from a diff surgery center with the same issues as me. I'm checking back into the hospital today...honestly, I am not sure I will ever be able to say it was worth it. :(.

If there is one thing you can take from my story, please be more prepared than you think you need to be. If I didn't have a strong network of help around me I don't know what this would have done to my baby boy.

Thanks for sharing your story. We don't always want to hear these things but it's very important that we do. I really appreciate you advice about having a strong network of help. That's something that I can do and will make sure I do when my time comes.

Scared to death! Was it worth the risk?

jennhlp

there is a risk to any/all surgeries, that being said

WLS was the best thing i ever did for myself

no more meds for diabetes, high blood pressure - no more CPAP

i would say it was worth it - for the rest of my long, healthy, happy life

good luck

be more prepared than you think you need to be

iggychic

what awful ordeal you have been going through - my heart and good wishes go out to you

i do hope these problems will be solved sooner than later - bringing you to a good point where you will start your life feeling better

Like IsB said, "its hard to hear these stories,"

us sleevers that had no complications, or very little problems feel bad for people who have had many issues

pre-sleevers need to hear these stories though - not to scare them away, NOT to scare anybody. They should not have blinders on going into WLS - but be totally aware of "might" happen.

IMO most sleevers have good experiences

get better and out of that damn hospital - hope you start healing at home real soon

Listen to your dr./surgeon he will give you good advise on what to do since your complications, gets lots of rest, you deserve it

i do want to say, that after all these problems have cleared - i hope you did not have your sleeve in vane - and will one day enjoy your sleeve, and reap the benefits

get healthy soon so you can hug your big little boy - and your big DH

my thoughts are with you

good luck

After a cat scan and MRI I am being sent home to recuperate in my bed....for likely at least six weeks! The spasms will continue until the blood has worked itself out of my body.

I have a huge bag of pain killers, muscle relaxers and anti inflammatory Meds. There is about a 1 in 400 chance of this happening in the surgery apparently. I would agree that thisnt to scared anyone away, but to warn you that even the easy clients like myself can have complications so be prepared! And for gods sake don't have this happen to you!

This is good to know. There is a huge spectrum of experiences with any WLS. It's good to see all sides!

I wish you a speedy recovery and the best of health!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
