How Much To Lose Without Getting Denied?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone :)

I am new to the forum and the sleeve process. I began my journey considering the lap band and was soooo happy to find out about the sleeve. (umm extremely nervous too) I am beginning my blood pressure and 6mos weight mgmt process and I am sooo confused. I have a bmi of 36 with high blood pressure and I am being put on the 6mos, doc supervised diet for insurance submission. Am I REALLY supposed to go hard at dieting?? I mean I know how to lose "some" weight but it's the keeping it off that is (litterally) killing me. I am afraid if I lose weight on the program I will go to low on bmi and reverse my BP problem, although that is the goal, I know doing it myself is very short term. What should I do? Do I really try or not so much? I feel bad/deceitful asking this question but I can't afford being denied.....please advise :) tx

I would be careful. If you drop below the typical number for approval with comorbidities, which is usually 35 BMI, that might be their excuse to deny.

That's a difficult situation, because you might be right on the borderline of approval already.

Talk to your doc and do as much research as you can ahead of time.

Good luck.

I wouldn't try that hard because you might be on the borderline.

Yea...I figured as much. Ugh it's going to be tough as a yo yo dieter to be ok with being soo unhappy for six mos...I just really hope its worth it :/

How are u feeling/ Coping with your new lifestyle? Can I ask how much you want to lose in total? I am 238lbs and would love to lose and keep off 80lbs.

Yes, I know what you meant. I'm feeling great. I'm so thankful that I didn't donate my smaller size clothes because that's what I'm wearing now. I am going to donate my larger clothes that I was wearing pre surgery because I never want to wear them again. I started out at 271 lbs and am now 236 lbs. Oops that's 35 lbs. My goal is 150 lbs. so 86lbs to go. I'm averaging about 1/2 lb a day and am loving it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
