First couple weeks after surgery I felt amazing, everything went down well the more I graduated into soft foods. Lately though the last two weeks I'd say everything I eat I take a bite and get nauseous. I throw up probably twice a week and not because food is stuck (trust me had that happen I know how that feels) or just I'm full it's literally my first bite and just because....I didn't read anything about this being a side affect, is this normal???

I've been having issues in the morning, my doc says when your stomach is empty over night sometimes it has an over abundance of acid so even drinking Water first thing in the AM makes me queezy. He just added to my perscription of prilosec to help keep my acid reduced as much as possible. My friend wrote about this and was right on the money with what my doc said:

Expect to be on a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) after surgery. If your surgeon does not bring this up, please be proactive and ask about being on one. If he/she doesn't prescribe one as a matter of course, generic over-the-counter PPIs (NOT antacids) are available and quite inexpensive.

PPIs are Nexium, Prilosec and Protonix; antacids are Pepcid, Tums or Rolaids. Many, many people have posted that Prevacid does not help, despite falling into the PPI category. It didn't do anything for me.

The feeling of hunger immediately post op? Most often it's acid and a PPI will control it.

Burning heartburn or acid reflux post op? Get on a PPI, not an antacid.

A really noisy new sleeve? Could be acid and a PPI will help. It could also just be a healing tummy, though, and is very common.

Do you feel pain, pressure or like food is coming back up when you lie down? It's acid. Take a PPI, and don't eat immediately before you sleep. sleep with your head inclined until the PPI controls the problem.

Everyone is different. I was only in need of a PPI for 3-4 months post op, though in times of stress (and apparently, pregnancy), I feel the need for one short term. More common seems to be 6 months of use and some people need them for a year.

I take a PPI and was also given a prescription for 2 different nausea meds. before leaving the hospital. I filled them but didn't use them. Apparently it's so common that my place automatically prescribes for it.

Wish I could give you some..

I have Reglin I think it's called? For stomach and nausea, a nausea patch and ondansetron so three different kinds of nausea meds. I felt fine the first 3 weeks I'd say but now it's all day and comes in waves. It's getting to the point where I don't even want to eat because I know one bite and I won't be feeling good. It's impossible to be in a social setting right now. I hope it gets better I just want to feel normal again...I'm a slow loser also so right now I'm regretting surgery a little bit.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
