Lap Band And Your Family

Recommended Posts

Has having the lap band changed how you think about what your family eats as well as you ? I have certainly changed my approach and think more clearly about what im feeding my child, its all about life style and what you are used to eating as a child when growing up, and it has a big effect on what foods we choose to eat as adults, so im learning my child about nutrition and what is good and bad for him and why, i have explained to him that you can have certain foods but in moderation as part of a healthy diet. Has any one else felt like this since starting there lap band journey ?:puke: :bolt: :D

I've always tried to feed my little girl as healthily as possible. She is still young. Since banding, we eat more of the same foods. No more drive-thru while my daughter sucks down a plate of steamed broccoli and chicken.< /span>

We share the broccoli now. DH still eats crud-in-a-box, lousy, skinny, freak! :puke:

My husband eats whatever he wants but we both decided whatever I fix willl be what he eats as well. He is not picky at all and will eat whatever. He is super supportive of this. My "welcome home" give was the Magic Bullet set. I have used it each day. If you do not have one it is very helpful. He is a meat eater so low carb will work for him. Loves fish. (also loves sweets but I will not be keeping those around!)

Manny,

The Magic Bullet is a type of blender that is very practical. I love mine and am even thinking of buying a second one to have at work. Check them out on ebay for pics, etc.

The infomercial is on all the time. It is not too big to take up the room of a blender. I look forward to making homemade hummus etc.

The magic bullet set are target is about 60 bucks which I am amazed my hubby paid that much. Ebay has sets much cheaper. I really like mine. It is very useful.

About the feeding of the kids thread. I have noticed that now I give my kids smaller portions of food because thats what I'm eating now. I used to give my kids (Now 9, 7 & 19mths) heaping portions of food and expected them to finish it.

This surgery has really opened my eyes to how much you are suppose to eat. Also, I don't get mad anymore when they don't eat all of their food because I can barely finish mine.

It is interesting when you talk about the portions you feed your kids. I remember when I was very young growing up, my mother or father would fill my plate with food. I was always made to clean up everything on my plate before I was allowed to leave the table. Even as I got older, into my teen years and was fixing my own plate, if I put it on my plate, I was expected to eat every bit of it. I am sure we have all heard from our parents the old "children are starving" somewhere thing. Well, I grew up overweight. I decided when I had my kids that just because there was still food on their plate I would not force them to finish it. They know when they are full. If they are full, why should I force them to continue to eat just because their plate isn't empty? I think this is one of the reasons my kids are not overweight like I am. I have allowed them to learn when they have had enough to eat and push their plate away.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
