I got a e mail last night from the insurance coordinator that everything was submitted yesterday for approval to Cigna. Anyone else have Cigna? If so... how long did it take for you to get a response? I am set for surgery on September 20th and dont even have a pre-op appointment scheduled. Feeling the pressure. Oh..and she told me to start my pre-op diet... so goobye food...hello protien shakes!!!!

My coordinator had a response within two weeks. I think they say up to a month. It got rejected for a missing sentence in my letter of medical necessity. The PCP had not stated that I was clear for surgery....was that not IMPLIED by virtue of her recommending the surgery? Anyway, the coordinator got that cleared up pretty quickly. If you have your date already, the surgeons office will do everything in their power to help you keep that date. Just make sure you stay on top of things. Good luck!

I have Cigna.

It took me 7 days to get approved.

Just make sure you that everything that they request is submitted.

Then call to verify that they received it, then call everyday for

the status.

If the representative is not helpful or rude, just hang up and call again

until you get one that is helpful.

That was my strategy.

Anyway, I think they got tired of me calling everyday.

I think I just wore them down.

Mine was 5 days from submission date. I have Cigna Open Access. I did complete 8 months pre-op requirements prior to my submission date. Didn't take long at all, and I requested my surgery date be 1 month out when I heard I was approved to give my work a chance to get the schedule rearranged for my absence.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
