First Time Throwing Up...

Recommended Posts

So I threw up for the first time since being sleeved today. I have no one to blame but myself. I was eating salmon and got that restriction feeling. It was subtle, but it was there. I only had a couple of tiny bites left on the plate so I finished them. BAD IDEA! It is so hard mentally to get used to the idea of wasting food or not "cleaning" the plate. I started salivating like crazy and before I knew it I grabbed a trash barrel and started throwing up the entire contents of my little tummy. As I'm staring down the barrel, the only thought going through my mind was, "damn, there goes all that protein." lol. Anyway, I share this as a warning to all newly sleeved and soon to be sleevers, when you get that restricted feeling, DO NOT IGNORE IT! Do not take another bite, not even one.

I always feel my nausea deep in my stomach followed by my mouth watering like crazy until I can get everything back up...it's an awful pre-cursor! I've thought the exact same thing, as my doctor tells me to get more and more Protein in, first 60 then 80 now 120 grams a day (what a joke!) every time you vomit you lose that precious precious protein!

What does the "restricted" feeling feel like? Is it in your throat or stomach? Does it feel like being full, pre- sleeve? I'm not sleeved yet and trying to prepare myself!

It feels like a piece of food at the top of your throat about 1/2 inch behind your tonsils where you can't see or where the "dip" is in your throat for a woman's neck in front. I have it often and have to force myself to throw up no matter what I eat unless its Soup or grits. Anything else I still have trouble with. Sleeved June 25, 2012

Looking ahead- did I read that right? Your having to make yourself vomit every time you eat unless its Soup?

:(

Wow, thanks for the head's up! Really puts an emphasis on eating slowly and paying attention to what your BODY is saying and not listening to what your BRAIN wants to do. Lesson (I hope) learned. :)

Been there, done that. I have to stop way before I get that feeling. I am a plate cleaner too and one bite too many will bring it on. Slow eating for me is the key.

LOL "There goes all that Protein."

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
