I had my surgery last weds 8/15/12 and I was able to go home on Friday 8/17/12. Did the pre op liquid diet for 2 weeks which consisted of 3 Protein Shakes a day (Atkins) and 1 small meal at night (Lean Cuisine). Day before I had no solid foods at all just the 3 shakes. That weds after the surgery and into thurs afternoon I had nothing. From Thurs eve to frin i had Water 3 cups and 2 Protein Drinks which surprisingly went down well. Been on a clear liquid since which includes water, Protein drinks not shakes, sugar free popsicles and Jello. Also chicken broth. When I scheduled the surgery with the Doctor she weighed me at 405 that was 6/20/12. As of today I am 368, I feel that I am losing weight too fast. I am still sore and can only walk for excerise. I would say the only discomfort for me is the gas. For one thing it hurts and secondly its deceiving. By deceiving I mean the gas makes me feel like I'm hungry but I know I'm not. Weds or Thurs I will be able to move to a full liquid diet but I cant wait to eat something solid lol. Until then does anyone have any suggestions on what else I can eat in this stage and next?

I survived on egg drop Soup (just the broth) the first 2 weeks. It was warm and new tummy loved it. Also, Fruit2O which gave a little flavor but not overwhelming.

I personally think your weight loss is ok...many on here say the the higher your starting weight the faster you lose which makes sense.

I felt the same way as you about the solids. Just be patient and it will be here before you know it. I did find that after I got the go ahead I surprisingly really wasn't all that interested.

I wish you a speedy recovery!!

I too am five days post op - I am so glad you mentioned the "deceiving"! I can't tell if my tummy hurts due to gas or is pissed because its hungry...obviously it is most likely the former. :-)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
