It will get better with each passing week. You may be a little soon to be having eggs and chicken. Try them again after two more weeks. Try Tomato Soup again after a few days to a week because that is okay at this stage. Notice that the things that are liquid or full liquid are working for you. Now you can start adding a little more bulk into it...try pureeing a chunky Soup or tuna or chicken salad and eating a few small bites of that. You will not be able to get more than a couple of teaspoons in at first. It's a trial and error period. Your stomach is still in the very early stages of healing. If something doesn't agree with you, give it a few days and try it again. Some people enjoy the pureed and mushy phase. I hated it and subsited on Protein Shakes until I could have soft foods. Although I did try a little each day. Hang in there!

I know every doc's post-op diet is different but at day 13 I was still on liquids and most of them (if not too thick) agreed with me. If I tried something too dense at the two week stage it did not agree with me. I looked at those first few weeks as a big opportunity to let my tummy heal and my body let go of weight while on liquids. I didn't eat any solid food until after 30 days. If you feel hungry consider you may be dealing with some stomach acid especially if you are eating things that don't quite agree with you yet. Are you on a PPI (nexium or something like that)? Cream of Mushroom Soup (mushroom bits removed) cream of asparagus, cream of brocolli made with Water where my friends at about 2 weeks out and kept me feeling full 2or 3 oz at a time. Good luck to you hope some of these suggestions help. Like Tracey said...Hang in there, it gets better, don't rush it!

Also if you're not on an acid-reducing medication try something like Prilosec. I threw up a lot right after surgery (for 7 weeks, gross!). Once I started Prilosec, I was able to keep more food down. I also agree with the suggestions above to maybe back off on advancing your diet just for a bit. We all heal at different rates. You'll find as time goes on that you're able to tolerate foods more... I promise that. I tried scrambled eggs as my first "soft food," and they did NOT stay down, not that time nor the next two or three times I tried them. I basically gave up on eggs. Then at around the 7-month mark I had half a deviled egg that actually did stay down--I have since eaten egg whites on numerous occasions that work just fine. So don't feel like you'll never be able to eat again; you just have to take it slow and let time do its thing to heal your body. Hang in there!

I went through the same thing post op. You will be able to enjoy food again, but the priority you place on food is going to change drastically. Don't misunderstand, you will be able to enjoy eating out with your family & sharing meals with friends, but food will no longer be the central focus of your life. Good luck and congratulations on taking the steps to a better you!

I was enjoying food again at about 2 months post op, but I was on whatever I could tollerate by 2 weeks post.

Yesterday I had bbq shrimp for Breakfast, a king crab leg for lunch and prime rib with mushrooms for dinner. For a snack I had 1/2 cup of cream of asparagus Soup. It was all delicious and most enjoyable. I don't typically eat that grand, but I'm trying to get rid of leftovers from vacation.

After a year, I still have days where something that I eat often will suddenly sit like a lead weight in my belly, but mostly I can eat anything, enjoy eating it, but am happy to be done when it's gone.

I want to know how long it would take for me to eat a chicken salad or turkey burger

That answer is different for everyone. When physically can you try? Depends on the doc but for me that would be after five weeks. When will it agree with your body? That might be five weeks or six months. It varies. I'd love to say that on September 7 you will be able to eat xyz....but that's now a real answer, even if it's what you want to hear :).

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
