2 weeks pre-op liquids sounds like torture to me! :D

I didn't have any pre op diet. If you could last for 2 weeks on liquids without the aid of a band, why would you need it??

Good luck...I wouldn't do it!

Hi Michelle!

Boy am I glad I didn't have to do a post op diet for my surgery! I had no restrictions until the night before my surgery (nothing after 8 PM). My surgery was 7 AM. I'm not very knowledgeable about the medical field, however, I think it's odd to restrict a person's food/nutritional intake before surgery unless there's some medical purpose that outweighs your need for nutrients pre-surgery. Anyway, I ate around 7:00 PM the night before my surgery and all was fine! Good luck!

Hi Michelle,

I am being banded on Friday and my doctor (Ortiz in Tijuana) requests a 10 day liquid diet. I am managing 7 days, but cheated and had a few taco chips today....they called to me!! Dr. Ortiz says the liquid diet shrinks the liver, which must be moved to place the band. A bigger liver is harder to move and can complicate the surgery.....that's my understanding anyway!!!

Good luck, Sara

I didn't do a pre op diet, I was told not to drink or eat starting from 12 midnight the day before surgery.

I wasn't required to do a 2 week liquid prior to surgery. Some doctors require this to shrink your liver so the surgery is easier and safer. I was just required to do a clear liquid diet on the day before the surgery, and that was hard enough! If you are having such a hard time with this, you should call your doctor and discuss it, see if it can be changed. Since not all doctors require this, that is a possibility! Good luck!

2 weeks ??? That's insane, especially since you're going to be doing the same thing 2 weeks post op.

Did you ask your doctor why he's requiring yo to go on a liquid diet for 2 weeks ?

My doctor had me on a low fat diet 3-5 days before my surgery so my liver should shrink and it would be easier for her to operate.

Wow, I guess I was pretty lucky, I didn't have to do any pre-op liquids! All I had to do was stop eating 12 hours before surgery. I am in the middle of my 2 weeks liquids post op, and the first 4 days I honestly though I was starving to death! I've never suffered hunger pain like that! Thankfully, by day 5 it suddenly eased. While I get hungry at certain times through the day now, it's not a constant ache in my stomach now.

i dont get as hungry as i was at first but i have been cheating a little. ok a lot. i have surgery on monday!!!! and i am going to drink only Protein shakes all day friday and saturday and sunday it will be fasting for me!

if i could do the liquid diet than wouldnt need surgery. i did good the first week and lost 4 lbs but this week it was supposed to be all liquid and i just havent been able to do it!!!! i figure since so many other people docs dont require the 2 week liquid that i would be alright if i just am super strict 3 days before.

i am looking forward to the after banding diet cause i know i'll be on my way to regular foods:eek: :)

Hi Michelle,

I got banded last week Thursday. I never had a pre-op diet, if I could go on a liquid diet I wouldn't need the band. As a matter a fact my last meal was on Wedesday (the day before), I had Mexican food!

I think your doctor wants you to lose weight before then and accredit him or the band for the loss. Be careful you need to have your strength for the procedure and recovery. Because after the surgery you will need to follow a liquid diet for a few days.

My doctor had asked me to stay on liquids for 2 weeks and I just could not do it. I was getting headaches and I was dizzy all the time. My body needs solids. 4 days after the procedure I had one scrambled egg and immediately felt well.

When I recieved information from MidBand (this is the company that makes the French band which is the best with the least complications-I got the package because my father is a doctor and they only send it to doctors) in their package I read that the patient is "encouraged" to go back to normal eating habits on the 3rd day, just remember to chew, chew, chew.

Good Luck

Mary:)

hey mary!

thanks so much! so did you go to regular foods after the eggs? i think i will do what feels right. i have bought a whole chicken and my boyfriend is going to make me homeade chicken soup! yum! i will drink the broth until i feel i can tolerate the veggies and broth blended together and then move to the chicken. i also bought sugar free Jello although i dont see that filling me up more like a treat! and of course i have Protein shakes and WATER! i will also make smoothies as soon as i can tolerate something thickish!

i ate taco bell today. i did so good the first week and this week not so good. its like i'm a bit obsessed. that is why i NEED the band

i am so exited.

michelle!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
