Bcbs Of Rhode Island....waiting On Approval

Recommended Posts

So my information was sent to my insurance company, BCBS of Rhode Island, a week ago. They came back yesterday requesting more paperwork. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with BCBS of RI and if them requesting more paperwork was a good sign? Just nervous and hoping this works out....the waiting is brutal!

I am right there with you. Mine was sent last Tues. to BCBS IL, They came back on Monday and wanted more paperwork, which they got yesterday. How long should we wait to hear back? I am at a stand still until this is approved. How often have you called them? I don't understand some of the cases who are approved in a 48 hour turn around then cases, like ours, can take a week or two, with more info requests! Why is this wheel turning so slow? and Why isn't this an emergency to everyone else? I don't know!! I hope you hear soon, please keep me posted, as I am impatiently obessing I will be thinking about you and know that I am not alone!

Yes, ma'am! I will keep you in my thoughts as we make our way thru this process!

I am still waiting on the additional paperwork to be gathered. Just praying that it all goes smoothly, and by the end of this year I can start to get my life back! It is super comforting to know that we are not alone!

I just called the BCBS and I was approved. This morning when I called a customer service rep. said she would move it to "urgent" and then about 3 hours later I had the approval. I don't know if that helped but probably. I was super nice everytime I called the doctor and the insurance company but anytime one of them had my "ball" in their court, so to speak, I called them everyday. I learned this lesson a couple weeks ago when I thought it had been submitted to insurance so I was calling the insurance and doctors office just to find out who had it to and come to find out the dr. who did my psyc eval never submitted her report- 12 days later! So, the ball was totally dropped. Anyway, poor BCBS can relax now, I will not be calling tomorrow!

If you don't mind me asking, what type of "other" paper work did they request?

**Congratulations on your approval!!!

On mine they wanted my History and Physical from the surgeon. I called to see if this was something additional I needed to do and they said they already had it so I wondered why they didn't send it in the first place! Maybe it was just a mistake, it only added about 4 days to the process but caused me some anxiety!

Hey guys!

So I finally got the rest of my paperwork resubmitted to the insurance company. For me they wanted additional information about how my doctor was treating my hypothyroidism and some more notes from my doctor on the supervised diet.

My surgery coordinator, Peggy, is amazing! She has busted her bottom to help me get all this paperwork together and submitted. She thinks I should hear something by the middle of next week! I am so STINKIN' nervous!!! Praying it is approved with no issues!!!!!

SRAMOS- CONRATS ON YOUR APPROVAL! That is awesome news!!! Do you have a surgery date???? I am happy for you! Please keep me posted on how all this goes for you moving forward!

IMBORDELON, can you please tell me what kind of Bariatric surgery BSBC of Rhode Island covers? My husband is looking into a trucking job that has that insurance. What else can you tell me about it, if you don't mind. How many months of supervised diet did you have do? Did you have to show so many years of being obese?

Thank you for you help!

Jessica

Hello! Newbie here! I have BCBS RI and am in the early stages of considering surgery. What requirements did you need for approval? Did they want the doctor supervised plan? Just curious. Thanks!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
