Welcome! Was there a specific reason for them canceling your surgery?

They werent going to make enough money on it...the product I need will cost roughly 10gs a day and insurance said ok and will pay what the contract said which is 2 gs....they are refusing to take a loss on this so they canceled...supposedly my insurance says they cannot do this. they are under contract but who knows.

That is so strange. My actual surgery was $32,000 not including surgeon and anesthesia dr charges. Insurance only paid about $19,500 to the hospital because they are a preferred provider.

That situation seems unusual. Did insurance say if you go to a different dr do you have to start the while process over?

Wow, things are very different in Australia. For the same surgery in total is between 15-20 thousand dollars max. My private health insurance paid my hospital costs 2 x nights at private hospital and I paid my gap about 6500 for surgeon and anaesthetist.

In retrospect, the insurance wrote off the difference because the hospital was a preferred provider. I didn't have to pay anything which was a blessing. Since I had reached my max deductible for the year. I can't imagine how hard it would be to pay out of pocket.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
