Omg, so many emotions running thru me right now! I don't have a definite date yet but I'm hoping for a date in sept. Dr's office originally told me that united health care had a 6 month req office visit, I told them not with my plan! They didn't believe me so they submitted just to see. Came back approved with only 1 dr visit. Got all my tests, documents done. Now the nerves start to rattle. I'm seriously afraid of dying on the table. Is this the right decision for a woman with two small children

I have a six year old who needs me terribly. He was born with a very rare blood disorder (which he will grow out of) which has left him with feeding issues. His daddy is a wonderful man but he travels frequently and isn't as patient with the feeding issues as I am (I spent three months in hospital learning how to be lol he got out of that). But he needs me as all of our children do right?

The thing is, as he grows I want him to learn to love himself. Not to suck out of pictures, or not to walk slowly up a hill...I want to RUN with him. Chase butterflies, walk on the beach and god forbid...swim! I already have to be obsessed with his diet,..and I want him to see that when he is well that isn't how "normal" people live. I don't want to see my pic in the paper again looking dumpy! I want my baby to see what healthy and happy are as he grows out of his issues and while I'm ok as I am, I'm not in love with my looks and that bothers me. I'm tired of diet after diet, up and down....obsessing! I don't want him to learn that from me and as such, for me mostly but also for my family, I'm taking this step. The risks are lower than the risk of complications of obesity are. Read here about gall bladder surgeries, reflux surgery, Cpap machines, diabetics, joint issues, back issues, the list goes on and on! The risks from those surgeries are far higher than this one....so for me it's now, to avoid that later and that's what keeps me from worrying too much about this one.

Research the heck out of your doc and don't choose one with no follow up or no preop requirements. Take the tests to be sure you are healthy enough for surgery and every bite you take, think about what you are teaching your lovely children. Then plan well....have some help if you need it after surgery with the kids. You'll be fine...look at this as a much lesser risk and move ahead with that in mind as many of us with small kids have.

My Dr. shared some interesting facts with us during the seminar. The national mortality rate for the sleeve is about the same as gallbladder surgery. If your gallbladder needed to be removed would you hesitate? He also said that the mortality rates for centers of excellence are even lower.

Personally, I am more afraid for life after surgery ... not the surgery itself.

Is this the right decision for a woman with two small children

jacksmommy719

definitely right decision for moms who have kids, any age to have the sleeve :)

if you need to lose weight - WLS is the best thing you can do for your health/children/family - you want to get healthy and lose that weight to improve your health so you can play with those 2 wonderful kids and watch them grow.

you want to chase them around, just have normal fun. Be at the playground - and not sit on a bench and wave to them - you want to be active and help them, and help yourself

i've always been heavy - 32 years ago when my daughter was 6, i couldn't run around and play with her., regret that so much

That "6 yr old" has now given me 3 amazing grand-kids aged 12, 9, 4 - i can now play/run etc. with them, and when i'm w/the 4 yr old - who can be a delightful handful- ;) i can run around with him and catch him ;)i could never have done that pre-sleeve and 87 lbs ago

hope you get sleeve date soon - so you can start your wonderful journey to a healthier/happier life for you and yours :)

with the help of your soon to be best friend - the sleeve

can't change the past - but the present and future will continue to be the healthiest, happiest time of your life

good luck

kathy

I keep asking that same question I have a 3,5,&7 yr old. I worry about dying as a result of surgery my husband is military with all that it entails and I want to be around to raise my children but I also know that being this overweight is not helping me either...I have decided to do it but am nervous. I have had 5 other surgeries to include 3 C- sections and I worry every single time...

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
