How Long Before Things Start To "even Out"

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

I have lost about 75 pounds since starting my pre -op diet in February. As the weight has come off, I have noticed it is mainly coming from my chest, legs, neck, and forearms. It still looks like I haven't lost anything from my hips and stomach. Just wondering how long it may take for things to kind of even out/how long before my problem areas catch up to the good areas.

Thanks for any responses :)

What a "funny" question. If I hadn't gone through this myself, I may not even understand it! At first I lost my face, boobs and feet (yes, feet), but still had a giant hind end. I swear the last 20 pounds came off from my butt! LOL. I'm sure "how long it takes" will vary from person to person. My loss started evening out around 3-4 months post op (just within this past month).

Congrats on your 75 pound loss!

50 pounds later, I have very slender fingers :D

I really hope my butt won't go away entirely, but I've definitely experienced an unevenness in my weight loss. I guess only time will tell when it will all even out!

I'm in the same boat. I knew women tend to lose it in the chest first. Since I've been losing, others have also told me I will lose top-down. Well, I've lost 93 lbs and I think maybe 10 of it has been in my hips/lower stomach. I've gone down in bra size and shirt size significantly but maybe down 1-2 sizes in pants. I was discouraged last weekend when I went through all of my work clothes and most of my pants STILL fit me! After 93 GD pounds! I'm hoping it will start dropping off below the waist too, that's where I carry most of my weight. I've always been fairly proportionate (and pray to be at goal) but I'm becoming pear shaped and I don't like it. (Oh, except I had no butt to begin with, it's all in my "front butt." lol)

Yeah I have went down in bra sizes like crazy to the point I have started wearing push up bras just to avoid looking like a child lol.

I find it especially annoying because I have to shop in two sections of the store now. I fit into "normal" sized shirts like mediums and larges, but I still have to wear plus sized pants. It just makes me mad because I would rather be bigger and proportional than small and uneven haha. Oh well, I guess I just have to be patient.

Congrats on the 93 pounds!

At first I thought that I was losing from top to down. But, after taking measurements I learned that I was losing all over. It just seemed like my gut was taking forever because my face, neck, and shoulders were looking considerably smaller. I guess my gut and my thighs had the most fat, so it will take the longest to come off?? I don't know, but it seems like my gut missed the memo that the tatas and tush got cuz they are long gone. :(

Oh thank goodness...I thought it was just me!

I have lost off of almost everywhere, except my stupid abdomen! It's crazy - my legs are slender, my arms are slender, but I'm huge all through the torso still...I look like a potato with toothpicks for limbs.

I still have another 50lbs to lose yet, so this abdominal stuff needs to hit the road

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
