Disapointed In My Pcp

Recommended Posts

Went to see my pcp today for the first time since surgery. I never too him about it before, because I was self pay and didn't need a referral from him.

Anyway, I went because I'm having major sinus drip. It's dripping down my throat into my new stomache making me sick, and today I vomited a lot of mucous. When I told him about my surgery, he just raised his eyebrows. He didn't ask me anything about it, when I had it, where I had it.

I then thought I'd impress him by how I quit smoking, going on three months, because he's always in me about that. He seemed happy, and asked why I decided to finally quit. I told him because mt surgeon wouldn't operate on me unless I quit. So then he said " oh, that's why, not because of cancer or anything."

He didn't come out and say anything negative about the surgery, but I could tell he wasn't approving. I was disappointed in him, he's young, and always been "with it", so I was surprised about his attitude.

...His poor attitude obviously blinded him to how terrific you look and how you're making great strides to improve your life! ;)

Hope the drip clears soon. Can't have that taking up the room in your skinny new stomach!

He probably got his ego hurt a little. He expects you to tell him about your health and important life events, and you didn't. He's been telling you that you need to quit, and then you did it because 'another' doctor told you that you needed to in order to have surgery. He'll get over it. If he doesn't, there are plenty of PCPs.

Hey Wolfgirl, if you haven't had sinus issues before, check out laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR)--I developed this after surgery, and one major symptom was what seemed like sinus drainage (but wasn't--it was coming from my throat, where stomach acid had caused irritation of the tissues, which were producing mucus to try to compensate). Are you on a regular antacid medication?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
