Restriction after surgery / before fill

Recommended Posts

I am going into my 2nd week after surgery & have begun eating mushy foods. I have noticed that I can only eat 3 TBS to 1/2 cup of any mushy food & then I am stuffed full. I typically have to eat 1/4 cup & then go back to finish the other 1/4 cup 45 min to an hour later so that I have some nourishment for the day. Has this happened to anyone else? My band was placed with no initial fill. Don't get me wrong - I like it this way :D, because I don't feel like I am starving to death, but I would like to hear about others experiences that are similar to mine. Thanks!

I'm feeling the same way. I don't get very hungry at all, and when I do I fill up quickly, even though I'm still on liquids. I'm happy about it, I feel great. ;)

I've been wondering how long it will last, so I'll be interested in what replies you get.

Enjoy it while you can because for most it doesn't last. I too, for the first month couldn't eat hardly anything and lost 30 pounds. Then, all of a sudden it hit, I was getting hungry and I could hold more. I got my first fill at 4 weeks, 2nd fill at 6 weeks and I'm suppose to go next week for 3rd fill which I will be at almost 3 months.

I had restriction from the band itself. I maintained the restriction and never did get my appetite back.

I had absolutely no restriction from the band itself. After I had my first fill, I had some restriction, but not a lot. However, after just my second fill, I believe I have reached the infamous "sweet spot" and am truly loving it. That is when my weight loss really started kicking in. It has been almost 5 weeks now since my second fill and I am still feeling and loving it.

I just started getting hungry. I feel as if i can eat, but a few minutes after I start, I get a bad cramp on my left side. I'm not sure if that's restriction or not. I started getting this cramp right after my surgery. Anytime I eat more than 1 - 2oz of mushies I get a bad cramp. If I drink too fast the same thing happens.

I haven't had a fill yet - how bad is the injection? I am not afraid, quite the opposite - I can't wait! I have been hungry since I woke up from my surgery 8 days ago. My doc seems to be more conservative than most. He doesn't allow anything but slim fast for 2 weeks prior to and 2 weeks post op. Then I am only allowed cottage cheese and eggs for a week. All I know is, I am starving and can't go on like this much longer. a new me

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
