Can No Longer Stand The Taste Of Water!

Recommended Posts

I Have always been a big Water drinker. I could gulp a 16 oz in a couple of minutes. Now, at 5 weeks post op, I can't stand it. I have tried filtered, bottled, tap and it all tastes horrible. It has gradually gotten worse. It's better if I add lemon or a crystal light flavor but I find some of those leave me even more thirsty. Has anyone else experienced this?

Me! I'm 4 weeks out and did love it before surgery. Now even when I add crystal light or any flavoring, I still can't drink it. It literally hurts going down. I'm hoping it goes away because I'm scared in the humidity and heat, I'm going to get dehydrated.

Yes I have. I feel that adding Crystal light definitely makes me feel thirstier. I am so sick of Water too!!! I don't have any alternatives though, so if you figure something out...let me know. I have had some natural fruit juice 6 oz. at a time and Tropicana50 orange juice, but I try really hard not to drink calories.

After surgery I had to drink Water at room temp. I couldn't stand to drink it cold. It tasted horrible. But eventually it tasted good cold again. Chin up! :)

i agree with you, Water tastes terrible to me. I was always a big Water drinker & now can't stand it. I keep buying things to try like Mio, but still has a funny taste.

why would this happen?

I read somewhere on the forum that the pH of the Water may suddenly not be agreeing with you. In that same thread, someone having a similar problem tried Smart Water on the recommendation of a forum member and the problem was solved. I find that some days water goes down without a problem, but other days, like today, it makes me nauseous. Good luck, I hope you find a solution.

Glad I'm not the only one! It hurts going down and its just not the same refreshing Water like it use to be. Its kinda sad..I use to enjoy a cold bottle of water but not anymore. I even try room temperature and it still hurts. Crystal light scratches my throat so I don't know. Hopefully this will get better, seeing that I'm only 3 weeks post op.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
