So I just had a pudding cup, 3.25oz to be exact. I wasn't even to the garbage to throw it away yet when I got sweaty, my stomach started rumbling, and I had a little bit of reflux. What happened? Anyone else have this happen to them?

When did you have surgery? Was it a sugar-free pudding cup? Have you tried the pudding before with no ill effect? Do you take a PPI once or twice a day?

It took me about 5 weeks before I could eat an entire sugar-free pudding cup by myself. I always limited myself to 1/2 a cup and gave the rest to my husband or son to finish.

Did you have a lot to drink before it or did you have something to eat prior to this?

Maybe limit yourself to 1/2 a cup next time if it is sugar-free and take your time with it.

I have had the sweaty nauseated feeling before and I know what you are talking about, I got it when I tried to eat a turkey meatball, that was 99% fat free, and was so dry it made me ill.

That was your body reacting to the sugar! Try to avoid sugar at all cost. It will get better for you. :)

I'm a week post-op and I'm on a PPI. I had two bites of it the other day too and nothing happened. It's not sugar free but I've been eating other things that have sugar in them and they haven't bothered me. I think I ate too much, but I didn't get a full feeling, I never do.

It's almost like dumping. We're not technically supposed to experience dumping syndrome, but we do after a fashion. I've done it myself. Something with too much sugar or too much fat, or eaten to fast, or a combination of those will cause it. You feel like you want to barf, but don't usually, but usually will end up running to the bathroom with the runs, sweaty feeling, like you said... very unpleasant.

Yeah I think it's because I ate too much of it because I had it the other day and it didn't bother me.

You won't get the "full" feeling for a few weeks. That's why we have to measure our food. Your body is stil adjusting to the surgery and rhe receptors that give you the signal that you are full are still trying to figure out whats going on. It's very easy to over eat early on.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
