It's Been 1 Year For The All Stars! Plz Check In....

Recommended Posts

I did not get to start this post on the 1st because the family made a quick trip to Branson,MO. So a year ago I was recovering from VSG and wondering if this time was going to be the last time I would have to lose weight. Would I be able to lose AND maintain? Went thru a few very tough weeks in the beginning but slowly things got better. Now a year later I am at Table Rock Lake in a bikini!!!!! Wow! Gotta love the sleeve life!

Way to go! You look great! I am just a few lbs from my goal but I don't see a bikini in my future without plastics LOL

We made it!!

All I can say is What a difference a year makes!

My surgery was Aug 25 so I'm still a few days short of my actual anniversary. But I had my one year dr visit on Thursday. My BP was 106/65!!! Amazing...

I reached goal in April and have been maintaining (actually less than my goal of 140) for over 4 months. I have given myself a range with 135 being goal and allowing my weight to vary between 133 - 137 which is two pounds in either direction.

Some days it's a real struggle to make good choices and some days I feel like I could eat everything in sight. I do miss the physical restrictions I felt the first few months post surgery.

But I'm doing it...and will continue to do it going forward.

Happy Anniversary o all of my fellow August sleevers!

I am a little late on this thread. It took me 13 months to make goal but I made it! I have lost 99.2 pounds. My ultimate dream goal weight is WAS 135. I am now 134.8. If I lose that .8, I will be in the century club. I think its worth a little effort to drop one more pound. I hope to go into maintenance for the next few months and then I am having plastics on Nov. 20th. I will have to wait for the swelling to go down and then see where I land as far as weight. I think I have at least 5 pounds of skin. I am ultimately hoping for 125-130 for the rest of my life. I am so proud of all the August Allstars! We made it a year now and then some and everyone is doing great. If you have not made goal yet, it will come! Trust in the process and keep eating your Protein first! It took me an extra month to make it and I figured it would. Woohooo! Congrats everyone!

Hi everyone! You all are doing so great. I have a long way to go. I am down 80, really Bummed because I wanted to reach 100 by my 1 year mark. But hey, 80 is better than zero!!! I know its my fault. Poor food choices, lack of exercise etc. I would like to lose 70 more. I am really trying to get my umph back!!!! How much have you all lost? I see your goal weights, but seeing the actual # of pounds lost gives me encouragement!:)

Hey everyone!

It's been over a year, I lost my job in July and have been stressed. I am the bread winner and even though I have found new employment, it has been difficult to get back on track with exercise, etc. that will soon be remedied!

I look great and feel great. I haven't lost much since January but inches.

The best decision I made was to have the sleeve!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
