Any Problems With Lobster?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm four months out and have never thrown up while eating regular food, but I had lobster the other day, and I don't know if I ate too fast or too much or didn't chew well enough or what, but I got a queasy sensation and decided that some of it better come up. The same thing happened the next day. I did notice that it was super fiberous so perhaps I didn't chew it well enough. Anyone had any problems with lobster that you noticed?

Thanks!

No, I've had it a few times and never had a problem with it. You do have to chew it like crazy, which can take away from some of the pleasure of eating it. I also skip the butter and get it poached which makes it a little dry. But it's never come back up on me. Could just be one of those foods that doesn't agree now, but could agree later. I can't do tuna salad anymore. I can eat tuna sashimi, but cannot do more than a bite of canned tuna without a queasy feeling. Eh.

I have had lobster and tolerated it when I was 2 months out. I sure didn't enjoy it much without butter though! I think I'll skip it in the future.

I was so excited when my doc said I could have crablegs (3Weeks after surgery) They did not come up but I did not enjoy them at all was so disappointed. My ensure came up today, maybe I drank too close to taking Vitamins. Only got 3 swallows down. I've never had this to happen.

lobster, crabs, scallops, chopped clams no issues with any of them. the great thing is I bought a 1 1/2lb lobster a few weeks ago and could only eat the tail and I was full. pre-sleeve. i would of had a 3lb lobster, corn on the cob, potato, chowder and maybe some clam cakes to go with it.

Just wondering what was wrong that you didn't enjoy the crablegs?? Was it the taste? That is my favorite and I am really looking forward to them. I am only 15 days out.

You could have developed a food allergy to lobster. It might not have anything to do with your sleeve. I use to love shrimp and lobster. I ate shrimp one day and got sick...vomiting and dirreahea. I didn't realize it was the shrimp and one week later, I ate shrimp again and got sick. Tried different shrimp... nope, got sick. Ate lobster...got sick.

I had developed an allergy to shrimp and lobster . I can still eat oysters, conch, crab...just no shrimp and lobster. Go figure. Doctor says you can develop food allergies throughout you life.

Oh well... I do like the fake lobster.

Hope you feel better.

One thing no butter and red lobster was not where I wanted to go. The bisque was so salty. I don't enjoy going there anymore

Thanks so much, guys! I'm going to try chewing better and see if it is better next time. I just bought a whole bunch of lobster and shrimp too from costco because I decided to eat less red meat again. I've been eating smoked salmon for lunch, and it is so good!

That is very interesting, scubadottie, that you became allergic. I'm so sorry that you went through that. I'll be on alert for that. Thanks.

Also, I did actually have butter with the lobster. I just drizzle it on lightly and don't saturate it. I have such a small amount that it has no affect on my weight loss. I have it on corn on the cob too. It is actually better for you than some margerine spreads. Coconut oil is a fantastic alternative for those that don't want to use butter.

Sounds like you ate too much, too quickly. It still happens to me sometimes, but rarely. I do eventually learn -- sort of.

I personally don't skip the butter. Just make sure it is real clarified butter and not the fake stuff. Butter, olive oil and coconut oil has a lot of calories, but it is part of a healthy diet in small quantities. You don't have to saturate it. Just dip a tip or as you say, drizzle.

Boy do I love coconut oil. I am hooked!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
