Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!

  • Popular Post

Let's get to know each other before our surgery...I'll go first. :)

My name is Amy (37 years old). I live in central FL with my husband and two kids, 3 yo DS and 4.5 yo DD. I work in IT doing technical writing and operational readiness. I love photography and have a small side business, and when I'm thinner, I really enjoy running and spinning.

I was banded in Nov 2009 at 374 lbs. From my banding until Dec 2011 (2 years), I lost 198 lbs. I was thrilled! Despite the occasional vomit and inability to eat certain foods, I was still 99.9% happy with my band. Right after Christmas this year, however, I got a terrible upper respiratory infection. I coughed and coughed and coughed. I coughed until I puked, which caused a slip.

I got a complete unfill in early January. Once the slip was fixed, I started getting fills. But then my band developed a leak and slipped once again. Since the surgeon I was seeing was less than helpful, I found a new surgeon, Dr. Domkowski, who finally treated me without acting like I was crazy, as my last surgeon did. Based on his recommendations and test results, we decided to do the removal and sleeve in two separate surgeries.

Dr. D removed my band on August 3, 2012. Because of the extent of damage done by the band, including scarring and pulling the fundus through the diaphragm, I am waiting around four months to be sleeved. I'd love to be banded on November 25, which would have been the three year anniversary of my band.

I've gained about 70 lbs since December. Sigh. The good news is my surgeon is not at all concerned about my weight gain. He is 100% convinced that I'll lose it all once I'm sleeved, since I was so successful with the band. I'm a bit of a goody two-shoes, and I followed the rules to a "T", and I intend to do the same with the sleeve.

I hope the next four months fly by!

90 lbs gone forever!!!! 10 lbs from 100 lb loss. I've been training for my first 5k in June . I work out 6 days a week and I'm still consuming no more than 600 calories. I've had ZERO complications and I'm so thankful for this surgery . Went from size 26/28 now in a 14/16. I'm

6ft tall so my "goal weight" is higher compared to others (190)

You look amazing girl. I'm sitting here shaking my head in disbelief, omg, it's not the same person in that photo! Unbelievable!!! Way to go!!!!!!

Good day "losers"! I am 4 months post op and 75 lbs down and went from size 3x-4x (26/28 ) clothing to 1x (18/20). Wooohoooo!!!! Feeling great and loads of energy. Working out at least 4-5 times per week. I'm still struggling to get all my Water in, and am averaging 800-900 calories per day.

Every once in a while I get that hungry feeling. :(. Anybody else experiencing hunger at this stage in the game?

First...you look amazing! I too am starting to feel a bit hungry for the first time. I was sleeved nov. 6 and have lost 70 lbs. I'm not exercising much and need to step that up. But I'm happy with my progress.

I am hungry sometimes too.. but honestly I think it's more boredom than hunger. If I keep busy then I don't eat, if I sit around then I eat. Luckily I've done some "tests" and I can't eat more than i could initially, but it doesn't matter if I eat more often. :(

I've also found if I neglect to take my Omeprazole then I eat more. I asked my doctor about it and he said he's heard anecdotal stories but nothing concrete.

So, take your Omep, stay busy, try not to think about food.

I stopped taking mine...I'm goin to start again bcuz I was never hungry while I was on it. I don't eat more often bcuz I consume snacks in between when I can bcuz I wouldn't get all my protein in and my carbs would be less thsn 30 grams a day:-\ I just get hungry when I'm supposed to eat...is that a bad thing? I'm 4 months post op. I eat the same amount except for seafood mix that I make that feels so good to eat....I can eat a cup of that. Is that normal??

I've never noticed any change in appetite with or without Omeprazole, but I definately get heartburn if I am not taking it.

Hi fellow Nov sleeves!!!

My surgery date was 11/21, I'm down 62 lbs. Great except now the scale hasn't moved in almost 3 weeks! I get 65-80 g of protein daily and about 64 oz of water. Calories typically 800-850. Anybody else experience a stall yet? I'm so frustrated!

1st congrats on weight lost!! Ive only lost 44# since sx and 56# @ my highest weight. I had sx on 11/20 and had my 1st stall during the 1st month then I had a mini stall a wk ago. The 1st time I increased my calories but this time I just upped my workout time. U r doin way better than I have because I still struggle with my water. Protein intake is good but carbs r too low. Just hang in there the stall will eventually give way and u will start losing weight again!

I've had several of them, but am down 55 pounds. Upped my protein and exercise, but it is still happening. I'll lose and then go up 3-4 pounds in one day. Don't know if it is the scale. But my clothes fit differently and I've dropped from 2x or 22/24 to 16 so I know I'm making progress!!!

I get mini stalls ... I will stay the same weight for a day or two and then lose a pound. As you can see from the ticker we're extremely close weight loss wise and we were sleeved on the same day too, and I just saw we have almost the same starting weight even! :) So, seems like even though you're having long stalls and I had short stalls, we're still losing pretty close to the same amount.. Only real different is that I have more to lose than you do. I can say don't sweat the stalls, but we all sweat the stalls. We're both still losing pretty good either way.
