Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!

  • Popular Post

Let's get to know each other before our surgery...I'll go first. :)

My name is Amy (37 years old). I live in central FL with my husband and two kids, 3 yo DS and 4.5 yo DD. I work in IT doing technical writing and operational readiness. I love photography and have a small side business, and when I'm thinner, I really enjoy running and spinning.

I was banded in Nov 2009 at 374 lbs. From my banding until Dec 2011 (2 years), I lost 198 lbs. I was thrilled! Despite the occasional vomit and inability to eat certain foods, I was still 99.9% happy with my band. Right after Christmas this year, however, I got a terrible upper respiratory infection. I coughed and coughed and coughed. I coughed until I puked, which caused a slip.

I got a complete unfill in early January. Once the slip was fixed, I started getting fills. But then my band developed a leak and slipped once again. Since the surgeon I was seeing was less than helpful, I found a new surgeon, Dr. Domkowski, who finally treated me without acting like I was crazy, as my last surgeon did. Based on his recommendations and test results, we decided to do the removal and sleeve in two separate surgeries.

Dr. D removed my band on August 3, 2012. Because of the extent of damage done by the band, including scarring and pulling the fundus through the diaphragm, I am waiting around four months to be sleeved. I'd love to be banded on November 25, which would have been the three year anniversary of my band.

I've gained about 70 lbs since December. Sigh. The good news is my surgeon is not at all concerned about my weight gain. He is 100% convinced that I'll lose it all once I'm sleeved, since I was so successful with the band. I'm a bit of a goody two-shoes, and I followed the rules to a "T", and I intend to do the same with the sleeve.

I hope the next four months fly by!

His scale was nicer than my home scale it read 157 and my Dr. was very happy with my progress :) He said my weightloss will make a U on the graph because the more I lose the harder it will get which I believe bc in the 11 weeks since my last visit to my Dr. I lost 17 lbs and that is much less then weeks before but the 1-2Lbs./week loss rate is where he wants his patients at this point.27 more till goal!!!

Hi All!

6 monoths + 3 days = 75 lbs lost! Halfway there!

Highest weight - 374 lbs

Surgery weight - 324 lbs

Today's weight - 249 lbs

Haven't checked in for awhile, but I have posted pictures now of comparing before I had lap band, then before the sleeve and now my progress, along with my hubby's. He had about 20-30 to lose and did so with a special plan and exercise. He's almost to goal and I would like to lose about 30 more and then reassess.http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/gallery/image/19581-comparison-photos/ Not sure how to post pics but I think that link will take you to our progress pics! Have a great day everyone! Feeling good and know that I am BLESSED!

Somehow my typing wasn't posted. 115lbs lost since pre op diet started on 10/4. :)

Saw the PA yesterday for my 6 month checkup.

Highest weight 225.5, weight yesterday dressed at doctors 161.5, on my scale this morning in my bathing suit....159.2. Yeah!!!!

Also my blood work was great!!! I can try and wean myself off the omeprozele if I don't have reflux!! I just realized I didn't take it today and this is the first day my stomach growled since surgery. I wonder if there was more acid in there. Will have to check it the next time I don't take it.

That is wonderful. I started at 230 and my goal for 6 months is 170. But 160 would be great. LOL

Good morning November sleevers. Just a quick check-in for me. Highest weight 300 lbs. Surgery weight 289 (11/15/12). Current weight 206.4! That's a total of 93.6 pounds GONE forever! I am so close to the 100 weight loss mark, and just as close to being in the one hundred's in weight. Hoping to hit that mark in the next week or two. Feeling great and loving my new life!!!
