When Can I Have A Beer?

Recommended Posts

Supersweetums, as soon as I saw you post about drinking "Caesars", I immediately knew you must be Canadian! This drink is not widely know to our U.S. friends!

For those unaware, the drink is called a Bloody Caesar and it's essentially a Blood Mary, but instead of using straight Tomato juice, the "filler" is a mix of tomato juice and clam juice (also known as Clamato juice). All the other ingredients are essentially the same (vodka, Tabasco, salt, pepper, Worchestershire sauce). The rim of the glass is coated with celery salt, and usually garnished with either olives or a celery stick, and a slice of lime.

Before you freak out and say "OMG, clam juice? Yuck!"....it's surprisingly good tasting, and extremely popular here in Canada. We can even buy the pre-made mix in various ****e levels (mild, medium and HOT) in the grocery store and all you have to do is add vodka, a few ice cubes, and enjoy!

I was actually wondering when I typed it if anyone would know what it was! None-the-less, it is delicious!!

Beer actually seems to sit more comfortably for me than soda does. But I still prefer not to drink it because I get all burpy -- which is not hot at a college party!

I would try some wine at home and take it slow. I used to be able to throw back 6 beers, 4 shots and then some to get drunk.

Now it is 1 shot of alcohol and I am stumbling drunk, this lasts for 10 minutes or so and then I am completely sober. So now I sip mixed drinks -- sugar free of course!

This is just like sweets -- some people choose to completely stop drinking and others don't. It is a personal preference and I would do what I wanted to. Everyone has a different answer.

I understand about enjoying a beverage every once in awhile -- my surgeon Dr. Steven Boyce of Knoxville, TN says NO alcohol for one year. Sorry! He said the alcohol is processed differently after surgery. So -- no single malt for me for awhile. And I wanted this procedure for so long, I'm following his advice.

I'm 6 months post-op, and I now drink wine. But never more than 3-4 ounces, and I drink it very slowly -- usually over a couple of hours. The alcohol seems to hit me a little harder and faster than it used to (or it certainly would if I drank 4 ounces during an hour's time as I did pre-op).

I've not had beer yet, due to the carbonation warnings. And probably won't for a long time. Besides, beer's just not my thing. However, I've read of many WLS patients online who do have the occasional beer and don't overdo it.

11 weeks out is about 2-1/2 months. If I were you, I'd hold out until 3 months. And then try a quarter or half a beer at home -- not in public, so you know how your new tummy will react to it.

And yes, I've read about the dangers post-op of carbonation, transfer addictions, etc.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
