Lovenox Injections Post-Op

Recommended Posts

Per my surgeon's request I am taking Lovenoxdaily for 14 days after discharge. It was given to me post op in the hospial as well. I did not have any issues with blood clooting prior to surgery but my doc uses it as a preventative.

I will say this' date=' I'm on the generic and the cost was still insane at 107.[/quote']

Thanks glad I'm not alone. I researched the cost as well, and I know yikes. I calculated it at about $80 with my 20% co-ins, but they only have me on it for 10 days.

I'm on it for 1 week. I have BCBS of Alabama and out of pocket it was 101.00 but my insurance would only cover it at CVS pharmacy and I only paid 10.00

Sounds like every surgeon and person is different. as far as blood thinners, I got some the day of surgery (obviously), and one shot in the stomach before I was discharged the day after surgery.

When I asked why some have to take shots longer and some don't, they said it all depends on the risk factors: age, gender, BMI, medical history, etc.

I would still inquire about why if they make you take anything. Make sure you go home with what you need: IMO everyone should go home with written care instructions, prescriptions for liquid painkillers (Lortab or similar), anti-nausea meds, and a PPI/acid reducer.

If they don't send you home with those, ask why. If they don't prescribe blood thinners, ask why. These people are busy and human, they make mistakes. Just confirm to your satisfaction.

I'm going to request lovenox if they don't prescribe it. I have a blood clotting disorder.... Factor 2. I sure don't want to have a PE!

I just wrote it down in my list to ask my doctor Monday. I, too, have Factor 5 and had a blood clot when I was Pregnant 17 years ago. Hmmmm

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
