Going Back To Work And Eating...

Recommended Posts

So I don't get sleeved until the 9th of August, but I am terrified of going back to work and eating. All I can think about is eating and something not agreeing with my new tummy and me puking! Has anyone had this happen?

How soon after surgery are you going back to work? I have thrown up after eating, but only twice and both times I had plenty of warning that something was not sitting well and had time to get somewhere private to do it. Both times, I was experimenting with new foods (that were prepared somewhat greasily) While it is not helpful to worry about the what if's, it is helpful to plan well. Depending on when you are going back to work, plan to bring things with you that you know you have tolerated well for your current eating stage. This would be a good time to brown bag it. There are so many cute little lunch coolers out there (I saw a bunch at Homegoods) that you can be stylish going to work with your food. Make sure you have plenty of Water and maybe some well tolerated Snacks that you can keep in the fridge or in your desk at work. Make sure you eat slowly and chew your food really well. If you plan and you are careful, most likely you will be able to avoid any embarrasing moments! :)

I try not to eat anything new at work. I do all experiments and reintroducing foods at home, and once I know something agrees with me, it goes to work with me. I won't really eat out for a while, brown bagging is totally the way to go.

You really shouldn't have any problems. I agree with Tracey - you get plenty of warning with discomfort. And I think MoreganK's suggestion to introduce new foods at home is a good one. You never really know what will upset your new sleeve until you try it.

The only thing I think you should consider, or remember, is liquid in = liquid out, so if you're still on a liquid diet at that point be aware that it's normal and something you should be prepared to handle.

I anticipated two weeks off from work, but liquid in/liquid out made me change it to three, just in case. And believe me, the liquid doesn't come out quite as well as it went in.

Yikes! Is the liquid out that bad? Ha I never really thought about how my poopy would be while on a liquid diet.< /p>

I went back to work a week post op. I was fine. I just stuck to my liquids. I didn't have any "liquid out" issues at all. lol. Just follow the rules and you should do great. I am 9 weeks out and have never got sick. Everyone is different, but, like everyone else said, I experiment with new foods when I am home. The only problem I had at work was that I was exhausted, which is normal. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
