Differences Between Hunger And Sick Pains

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I am 4 days out from my op, I am having real issues telling the difference between my hunger pains to feeling sick pains. I try and eat my 3 meals, with Water in between but am finding it real hard to tell if I have eaten enough or too much.

Any help?

Also am so happy to find this thread that I can ask questions on, in Australia there are not too many support groups.

At 4 days out get in what you can and don't over do it. Your insides are still swollen and you are healing. The main thing is to get in Protein through shakes preferably because that's really all you should be taking in at this point-liquids.

They say get in 64oz of Water. Tomorrow will be 1 month post op and I finally got to 48oz yesterday.

It gets better and easier with time.

I'm 18 days out and I'm having a similar problem. I'm at a point now where I have that "gnawing hunger" feeling in my stomach nearly all the time now, all day long. It's not head hunger, it's that almost cramping hunger and it's starting to make me concerned. I thought one of the benefits of the surgery was to not feel so hungry all the time, but it's actually gotten worse post-surgery. I thought maybe it was just extreme thirst, but I drink Water all day long and that doesn't help. Even after I have my Protein Shake or Soup, about 10 minutes later I start feeling it again. Should I call my doctor?

Gustavo, maybe it's acid you are feeling? Are you taking any acid reducing medicines?

I'm taking Nexium. Maybe it's not enough?

I am 10 days out and I am also having an issue reading what my body is telling me. Hunger feels different now, and so does full! For now I try to drink and if I still feel hungry I'll get some Soup ( still on liquids) my biggest thing is I am working on is slowing down when I eat!

Best of luck

I'm 9days out and have not really been physically hungry, but I've had some head hunger that's for sure. Also if my tummy is feeling acid I take liquid Gaviston, although daily I've always and still do take Prilosec.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
